Character Design Challenge #188 – Masterworks. – Results

Well I gotta say ... I thought this topic would be much more popular than it turned out to be. Not sure if folks found it intimidating or just a bad idea. Anyway, three brave souls undertook the challenge brilliantly, but one really nailed it.

This week's winner is HerrD. Well done you!

Anime Talk: Live Action Ghost In The Shell clips!

ghost-shell

A live action version of the Anime Movie Ghost In The Shell is in fact a real thing, and in the past I have written two posts about this subject, the first one when I first found out about this project ( Read it HERE ) and the second a look into the controversy and accusation of "white washing" by Hollywood because Scarlet Johansson was cast as the Major ( Read that one HERE ). Well now I am writing to share with you all some clips I just saw on ChrunchRoll's news section from the movie which are on youtube. You can see those clips HERE.

Now there isn't a lot we can learn from the clips as they are so short, however there is one thing we certainly can learn from them. One of the fears surrounding this film by the fans of the source material is that the setting would be changed. It was feared that the story would be removed from Japan and placed in a futuristic version of New York, or LA but from what we can see in these clips that fear can be put to rest or so I hope anyway. These clips make me more hopeful for this movie and now we just have to sit and wait too see weather Ms Johansson can do the role of Motoko Kusanagi.

Pop Quiz – I Dream of Genie – Results

Well this proved to be quite a tough decision. All the entries were good, but I was torn between Cliff and Xinmodic for their very creative use of objects.

That being said, I think I have to give the edge to Cliff this week. The colouring and detail is really exquisite.

Thanks to all who entered.

The Dark Side of the Fandom

(Apologies for not having this up sooner, my computer decided to be uncooperative)

Hey everyone, I wanted to talk to you today about something a bit more serious. In terms of mainstream acceptance and sheer scale of dissemination through popular culture, it has never been a better time to carry the title of ‘nerd’ or ‘geek’. If you look at the films with the highest grossing openings, not only are the top three spots held by geek culture movies (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and The Avengers) but in fact the top thirteen places are held by films within the genre, only interrupted by Furious 7. You can walk into any Target, Spencer’s even Wal-Mart and easily find a plethora of clothing, accessories, and collectibles to proudly proclaim your love of all things geeky. Conventions are huge and plentiful, with cons like E3, the New York Toy Fair, and San Diego Comic Con becoming entities unto themselves as places of premiere news, trailers, and announcements to both geek and mainstream media. We made it guys, widespread acceptance!

How they should write: A DCEU Batman Solo Film

Ok guys, going to try something new today.

Ever since it was announced that the follow up to Man Of Steel would feature Batman, people have been wanting to see another solo film for the caped crusader. The character has now appeared in 2 out of the 3 DCEU films so far and is set to appear in a third when Justice League hits the screens next year. That means that, at that point, all of DC's trinity (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) will have appeared in 3 films each, but Batman will have been the only one to have not had a solo film. Obviously that will change, Batman is too marketable, and there's apparently already plans for a solo Batman film featuring Deathstroke as the main bad guy. But considering how well received the DCEU has been so far, this could be a very important film for Warner Bros. If Wonder Woman and Justice League aren't well received, a Batman film could be the last shot for the DCEU, considering that Batman films always do very well at the box office and the fact that Ben Affleck has so far been the most universally praised aspect of the DCEU meaning it has the best shot at revitalising the franchise if the next two films don't go down well.

So how should they write it? What story should they go with? Well, here's my take. It's most likely not going to be anything like what they do, but I feel this would be the best way to do it.
