Top 10 Things Marvel Would Like You To Forget About The X-Men

The X-Men have been going for 53 years at this point. During the over half a century in existence, they grew from a 5 mutant team led by a bald guy in a wheelchair to a huge multinational force containing some of the most recognisable and most iconic characters in the history of comics. Their 1991 main book renumbering X-Men #1 became the best selling individual issue of all time, selling well over 8.1 million copies, and the team have been involved in some of Marvels greatest ever storylines (The Dark Phoenix Saga and Days Of Future Past to name a few). But for all their high points, there's a lot of things about Marvels marvellous mansion of immutable mutants that they'd like you to forget.

Open Nomination: HMHOF!

Well Jr's Hero Of The Year Post today reminded me that it is also time for our annual HeroMachine Hall Of Fame nominations! So here is what I want you to do. In the comments below I would like you to nominate a pieces of Heromachine, and HEROMACHINE ONLY artwork from any creator anywhere on the internet so long as 1) The individual has not been banned from this site, 2) The Heromachine artist knows about the nomination and does not object to his/her artwork being used here. & 3) as noted above the artwork is created 100% inside heromachine with no editing other then basic cropping.

I would prefer you nominate other peoples artwork but you are not forbidden from nominating yourself if you are so inclined. Also there are no limitation on the number of nomination you can make but I do ask you try and keep them to a minimum so I don't need to create a 100 entry poll!

Character Of The Year 2016: Preliminary Round

Continuing our yearly tradition, as it is nearing the end of the year we've collected together all of the winners of this years CDC's (except for the current ones that have no winner at time of posting) and ask you guys to decide which one should be crowned Character Of The Year. In this preliminary round we have 12 pictures randomly placed into each of our 4 polls using a randomizer (well, except Poll 4 which has only 10 because reasons). You can vote for up to 5 of your favourites in each poll once a day until 12 am on the Saturday 17th. After that, the 4 pictures with the highest votes in each poll and the highest voted 2nd place picture will go into a final poll to decide our Character Of The Year, which will be announced on Christmas Eve and inducted into the Hall Of Fame.

Anyway, the polls are below the jump.

The List: Top 10 Magic Users In Fiction

So, turns out this was a very popular category. This poll had more suggestions than any previous poll and beat our record for most votes on a List poll by a good 50 votes. Either people were enchanted by our wide array of options or people just like magic that much. But who is our wizarding winner?

Honourable Mentions: Twilight Sparkle (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic), The Wicked Witch of The West (The Wizard Of Oz), Prospero (The Tempest)

cheesy-christmas-sweaters-bt6xntc1

Your challenge this week is to design the ugliest Christmas sweater you can imagine.

Whether you are a pullover, cardigan or sweater vest aficionado, throw all caution and taste to the wind, and just have fun!

No limit on entries this week.

Characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close on Sunday, December 11 at 9:00am Eastern.

Poll Position: Greatest Character Portrayals In Comic Book Movies

The right casting choice can elevate a movie to the next level. Even a bad film can be salvaged by an outstanding performance by one of the cast. And whilst though it is somewhat of a new genre in terms of the history of cinema, the comic book movie genre is a good example of this. Finding the right actor to portray a long established and beloved character is a difficult task, so when it happens, it can be magical. So this week we're going to decide who the best casting choice in the history of comic book movies was. We are looking at any actor to portray a character who originated in a comic book. The film does not have to be a Superhero movie, any film adapted from a comic book property will count.

As per usual, I've given you 10 to start and you can add your own. Please remember that when you add your own entry add them with the actors name and the name of the character they portrayed, along with the movie/ movie series in which they are acting.

What Were They Thinking: Out of the frying pan and into the (Star)fire

So, DC. They've been very kind to me over the last few weeks, giving me plenty to talk about on this series, where we take a look at all of the stupidest, most misguided things in the history of the comic book industry, thanks to their New 52 relaunch. And this week is no different. I promise I'll go back to slagging off Marvel next week, hell I might even have a go at Image if I can find something of theirs that's worth the time. But DC have done a lot wrong over the last half a decade and they're an easy target. Don't worry, they're big boys, they can take it. Anyway, this week, sexism, because that's always fun.
