    Character Contest 49 – Scorpio

My next Scorpio was supposed to be more menacing. Desert Scorpio stands in the middle of a sandstorm. I needed something to fill the deadspace to his left. The camel poking his head into the picture makes the design somewhat humorous.

    Character Contest 49 – Scorpio

First subject in the Zodiac Character Contests. Though, my sign, Aries is first and Scorpio is the eighth, the contest started around late October.

One design, which I did not enter, was based on 1980s action movies such as “Rambo,” “Delta Force,” and, of course Dolph Lundgren’s “Red Scorpio.” For obvious reasons, I felt the character was too cheesy, so I passed.

Wilkommen to the Forums, DTopping80! While I don’t have a name for your assassin, I do have a suggestion for Buckshot. His forearms are bent at the wrong angle. Alternately, his hands are positioned backwards.

The way his arms are bent, his hands should be palms toward the body. If you want palms facing away, reverse the angle of the forearms. Hope that helps.

    Par exemple:

That is an incredible amount of patience. Very convincing suit of armor. Excellent design!

He looks pretty good, despite the lack of zypping (which we really need to rename…I haven’t seen or heard of Zyp in ages…)

Neither have I. However, just like a Contest / Challenge Custom Item is part of the HeroMachine program, “zypping” is part of the HM lexicon. The term is his legacy. Cool

Second entry: Madame Macabre, the Mystic Murderess. Though her backstory is incomplete, I include her in my meta-verse. The tattoos were originally purple but they blended too much with the dress. Not thrilled with the tattoos themselves. They are simply masked gloves. Might have to re-visit their design.

Nice touch with the flock of birds. I’d enjoy to see and read more.

Space Cowboy is really good. Give him a few lines of backstory and he might get a HOTM nomination.

Thanks for the feedback, Kaylin. I have gone through the tutorials and studied various examples of Zypping. It is a really neat effect that adds a lot of dimension and pizzazz. Many HMers that have mastered the technique with incredible results.
    Alas, not me.

I’m not a big fan of the circus. Clowns are creepy. These are some of my laziest designs given my lack of interest in the subject. So I am going to post just a couple of entries.

First is a circus performer, an acrobat. The original is from HeroMachine 2.5; the second is an HM 3 re-design. Not too thrilled with the HM3 version. He’s supposed to be standing on a ball. The ball is flat. Here is where a bit of Zypping would create the 3D effect that could have saved this picture.

A personal favorite – Thunderstryker. I’m a mech guy at heart (right next to the pouty little girl).

Just because a guy has an aesthetic color-scheme doesn’t mean that he can’t be a villain. I really like Frogman and Heron.

I agree with Alexander. HeroMachine needs the “Like” button. It’s quick positive feedback.

I did not enter Jeanne Arc-en-Ciel into the contest. This was an experiment using highlights and shading. That and I was trying for a psychedlic look. The design is very muddled.

Gayel Force is a hybrid from my Achi’i storyline. Her mother is an Achi’a duchess and her father is a Benefactor general. To re-cap, the planet Achi’i was in the grip of world war. The Benefactors came to the planet offering peace. Instead, the became brutal oppressors. The Benefactors have taken Achi’a mates from the royal houses to secure power and create a bloodline.

Thus, being of noble birth, Gayel became an officer in the Benefactor Armada. Her post prevents Achi’i starships from escaping the solar system as well as intercepts outside aid. Her cybernetic arm and leg are not a result of a battle or an accident. They are sheaths that cover her boneless Benefactor tendrils. The patch covers her Benefactor eye which has been blind since birth.

All of this, the Achi’a, the Benefactors, Gayel Force, the entire storyline is subject to change. My dad saw Gayel on my laptop and asked me if she is supposed to be Honor Harrington. He has read every one of the Honorverse books. Whereas I have read none. Admittedly, there is a resemblance.
