SulemanParticipantGood to hear that! I tried to channel robot designs from old British comics like the Fury from Captain Britain or any of the robots in ABC Warriors.
Let’s do this again sometime.
SulemanParticipantMy half of the art trade. By sheer coincidence, I also picked a mech character: Negadroid.
It’s a pretty big departure from your original, I can get carried away at times. I still tried to stay true to the concept, though!
SulemanParticipantNice! I like how hefty your version is. Also, interesting to see how you shifted the design to a front-facing view. Working on my part of the deal, might take a day or so before I have the time to finish it.
SulemanParticipantEh, surprise me!
SulemanParticipantI would like to do another art trade or commission. Any takers?
I’ve been fiddling around with some of my own ideas but I haven’t found the drive to finish any of them lately. Please give me something to make, I’m up for anything.
SulemanParticipantI like that. The colors of the sky are great, the pixies and the opossum are cute and the fairy ring is a nice touch. The backward-facing satyr is brilliantly done.
There’s a slight problem with a lack of depth to the background, meaning that the pixies, the fairy ring and the main scene seem like separate scenes having been placed on a flat plane rather than one big whole. I have no easy trick for fixing that, though. Another thing is that Trillian’s arms and hands seem a bit large, probably a perspective issue but I find it hard to ignore.
Still, I really dig this. I appreciate how her background gives the image a slight tragic feel.
SulemanParticipantGreat concepts! Great pose for Lady Ornella! Great colors!
Very nice, I’m looking forward to what you make next.
SulemanParticipantThe colors do look rather wonderful! That being said, 600 layers is an awful lot. That level of detail is more than viewers can actually notice.
It might be a good idea to adjust the line color for the fishnet piece. Right now the outlines seem a bit too thick and dark for the rest of the item. Playing with line colors is fun in general!
Something about the forward foot seems off to me, but I’m not sure why. Maybe the forward leg should be a bit longer than the back leg, because of perspective?
SulemanParticipantWhen I’m creating a black character, I typically use custom colors, with a dark brown skintone as a base. I check the hex value and tweak the RGB values until I’m satisfied. I then use a lighter-colored highlight, typically something slightly red, like the “Midtone Asian Dark” skintone.
I don’t have a solution that always works, because there are so many possible skintones and different types of lighting. Play around, try all kinds of different base color and highlight variations, see what fits the character.
SulemanParticipantGreat pose, great grass effect! Just really solid and clean in general.
I can’t think of a great ring-shaped item right now. Insignia-Tech does have the metal ring but it might not be sufficient.
SulemanParticipantI made a new little collection of my thoughts regarding posing in Heromachine.
SulemanParticipantLooks good! Sounds like it was a lot of work.
It’s also clear that you have learned the important art of heromachine smoke and mirrors. Covering the messy parts of a design with clothes, foreground objects and masking is a good, powerful option. The next step is to learn to see when that is necessary in advance, before spending a lot of time trying to fix the unfixable.
The cart looks great! Really good use of all those parts to create an impression of three-dimensionality, the chest was a nice addition. Heavier shading could help emphasize the depth, but that’s a slippery slope.
Nice work, all around. I’m looking forward to seeing more.
SulemanParticipantAh, very Robin Hood. I can dig it. The original was very loosely modelled after middle-eastern archers. It’s always great to see what others do with the same idea!
I really like that the parts the outfit consists of are easy to determine rather than being a mess of straps and plates. Especially digging the shoulders and the gloves. Great shading, too. You haven’t lost a step.
SulemanParticipant
SulemanParticipantHere’s my take on Sora Shade. I couldn’t quite replicate all the cool shading you did for her face and such, but the angled pose makes that difficult anyway.
EDIT: Oh gosh, it took me this long to realize that in the original design, she was wearing a skintight bodysuit and the grey “gloves” were her hands. I was wondering where her pants were. Oh, well. The similarities between her skintone and the color of her bodysuit confused me.
