SulemanParticipantI wrote a basic guide for how I approach shading in Heromachine. It doesn’t go into the nitty gritty details, but it might be interesting if you’re not a shading expert. Check it out!
SulemanParticipant
SulemanParticipantThat’s a really neat costume. I like the little details, like how you did the belt and the joints. The background is effective, too!
SulemanParticipantThanks a lot, Skoul and Vampyrist! The Alien Cyborg turned out to be more popular than I expected, it was a fairly quick and simple idea. I guess the gleam effect I used when shading the metal parts worked pretty well!
Also, here is a Dwarf Princess, out to break some skulls and hearts.
SulemanParticipantHere’s a ferocious looking alien cyborg. (They’re actually just a janitor)
Mostly an exercise in using metallic gleam!
SulemanParticipantThe Ak’vir design is pretty fun, very Star Trek. I’m guessing their planet is pretty warm, considering how little that diplomat’s outfit covers?
SulemanParticipantLady Shark has a background now! She just paid a friendly visit to that merchant ship. There were no survivors.
SulemanParticipantNice!
Arwen is looking pretty great. The design of the clockwork leg is pretty inventive, the belt is real neat, and the simple color scheme works well. The parts that need to stand out, stand out. Her face is also nice, simple but expressive.
I’m not a huge fan of arbitrary asymmetry in designs, but it works in this case because she’s an adventurer. Some very small things I noticed:
Maybe slightly change the color of the gun, so it stands out from her coat more? Right now it sort of blends in.
Are those armored hems supposed to be part of her coat or a separate piece?
Where are the straps of her goggles?
SulemanParticipantThis is Lady Anaconda. Yet another of the lady knights doing the evil Empress’s bidding.
For decades, she has faithfully hunted down the Empress’s enemies, chasing them with speed and stealth, then catching and subduing them with the bolas she wields with deadly accuracy. She is not without honor, but her loyalty to the Empress is unwavering.
EDIT:
Added a slightly tweaked version
SulemanParticipantOverhead deaaaath striiiiike
It’s just a posing exercise.
SulemanParticipantLady Shark is, um, technically a knight. She was appointed as one by the evil Empress. She is also a cruel pirate lord with an interest in destruction and mayhem.
Her weapon is her literal hand cannon. The ammunition and gunpowder can be found on the pouches on her belt. I once said to her: “You know, miss Shark, you might still have all your body parts if you didn’t play with things that go boom.”
I then proceeded to die in a gruesome fashion. I got better.
SulemanParticipantThis is Lady Buffalo without her helm. She’s somehow a lot less mean when she doesn’t have that on. Maybe it has something to do with that weird gemstone on it?
SulemanParticipantThe detail on Serpento and Ghost is pretty darn good. Just solid designs all around, the parts fit together nicely. The color schemes also work well.
SulemanParticipantCornutia seems like a pretty fun design for an antagonist. I like the combination of elements you used to make him pretty monstrous.
SulemanParticipantThat’s a really neat face, I really like the shading and lighting you did. I have two very tiny points to make, however!
1. The solid-black eyebrows look out of place on such a detailed face. Could you try and make them better fit the color scheme and lighting? Maybe use a lighter shade of black?
2. The stubble and the shadows are escaping the boundaries of the face on both sides of the jaw. I wouldn’t have noticed if this wasn’t such an enormous close-up.Your work is just really solid in general, I like what you’re doing. Keep it up!
