Both face studies have great depth thanks to your shading, but I see a little more life in the version with green eyes.

Thanks to all for the great feedback!

So, I’m always looking to perfect the “Zypping” on my characters. Today, I took the male human body and just focused on highlighting and shading. What do you think? I found a small trick for the legs and I think they are the best shading I have done. I would like you “machiners to really critique all the sections of the body (legs, hands, torso…etc) and let me know what works the best.

    Cheers!

Okay, here goes. The seams where the hands meet the forearms and where the feet meet the lower legs are visible. Also, the gradients on the backs of the hands and the tops of the feet may be a tad too large. The effect is not as subtle or organic as the rest of the lighting effects. They read more obviously as gradient circles, unlike the rest of the zypping (which is great BTW). The face, in particular, is very well done. A question, I often struggle with feeling like I can’t get the gradients small enough to work in certain areas that can be pivotal to the overall effect. Do you have this issue, and how do you approach it? Thanks. Love you work as always.

Well that’s certainly an improvement. A very big improvement. Not that the old one was rubbish, it’s just the new one is better, in almost every way. And he has feet now http://www.heromachine.com/wp-content/legacy/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif

Thanks, JR. He (it?) was one of the first characters I created and I’ve learned a ton of technique since then. Something else worth pointing out is that back then I was far less familiar with the breadth of items available. For example it’s possible I didn’t know the lanterns I used for the right hand even existed the first time around.

Just posted this to AMS’s Evolutions thread. The Sentinels’ big bad the Memetic Revenant. A sentient computer built millennia ago by an alien race to preserve its culture. Their planet is long since dead and their race extinct, but the Memetic Revenant still roams the Galaxy terraforming worlds and rearranging genomes.

Good eye, Atomic, and thanks. I didn’t start this character as a football player, but eventually he decided that’s what he wanted to be, so I went with it.

Best segue ever. I am going to start using that in all my conversations when I’m ready to change the subject.
