The Hero of the week contest on the UGO forums works like this.

 

You can not Nominate your own artwork, only the work of other Forums members

All Nominations most have been made using Heromachine, and must be free of any editing via photoshop or similar programs.

All Nominations must have an a story of at least 5 sentences to be considered.

Once 10 qualified nominations are made, Willypete the Moderator over on UGO would then put up a poll on the following monday which all forums members are able to vote on and which is open for one week.

At the End of the week of voting the member with the highest number of votes wins, and any non-winners who managed to gain at least 20% of the Vote are automatically entered into the next Hero of the Week contest.

In the event of a Tie, WillyPete has final say over who the winner of the tied contestants is.

My only concern with starting up Hero of the week here on the new forums is that we do not at this time have anyone to create the polls, and judge the contest in the event of a tie. Jeff would be a perfect judge, but lets face it, he is extermely busy at this stage in life with his new job, running the Blog itself and looking after this forum as well the ugo forum. I think Hero of the week should be put on hold here until such time as Jeff decides to appoint some Moderators for these parts, if he decides he needs them.

I have been having that problem also, the work around I have been doing has been to right click the link and selecting Open Link In a New Tab

Its Not that hard, if you are linking from another site its easier then if you are hosting the picture here but it still isn't that difficult. You just have to put each post up one at a time into your post. If hosted off site just put in the url of the picture. If you are hosting it here you will either have to have multiple folders because after 2 or 3 pictures it will not register your upload to the site into the same folder. Or you need to put up 2 or 3 images, and come back later edit your post and put up 2 or 3 more. I have multiple folders but that is because when I was experimenting when Jeff first open things here I did sometime I don't know what, that caused it to automatically create something like 10 folders so since I have them I use them. Though it looks like it is rather easy to create extra folders on the 3rd tab of the window where you insert the picture into your posts.

Its done using a background item. Background > Shapes > Last Page > top Row >3rd item. It is one of the two Gradient circles. Set color 1 and Line color to o transparency. Select the color you want the glow, hightlight, or shadow to be and set it to color two and play around with the transparency til you get the effect you are looking for.  For Glow effect I tend to sit around a 30% – 50% for Shadows or Highlights I sometimes go higher depending on how dark or bring I want the highlight or shadow to be.   Once you have the color the way you want it, play with the size and shape of the circle.
