Powers: Superhuman Speed (max approx. 767mph/ 1235kph)/ Reflexes/ Stamina, Accelerated Healing Ability, Heat/ Friction ResistanceSmart, brave and reliable, Madison Macbride was always the kind of person who would go out of their way to help someone, even before she discovered her powers. A basketball stand out in her teenage years, there had been some suggestions about her going pro before her powers emerged, after which she voluntarily disqualified herself from competing, believing that her powers would give her an unfair advantage. Since then she has become the superhero UltraSonic, using her speed to help as many people as possible.
Note: Madison is very good friends with Amy Avery (aka. Mach-10) and the two have a little bit of a rivalry going on as to who is the fastest. Thie question is somewhat difficult, as Amy would most definately be the faster of the two, considering that her theoretical top speed is 10x greater than Madisons, but that is air speed, with Amy being at her fastest at high altitudes. As Madison can’t fly, any competition between the two has to be held at ground level, which puts Amy at a distinct disadvantage; with turbulence and other air users (such as birds and aircraft) being a significant problem.
A young sorceress, Bethany Greenwood studies Lunar Magic, magic that channels the power of the moon to enhance spells and sorceries. Little did she know that her studies would lead her to find one of the great lost treasures of magic, the Moonlight Spellsword. One of the Spellswords created long ago by masters of various magical arts, the Moonlight sword, as one might expect, channels and augments Lunar Magic. Due to the Spellsowrds powers and rarity they are highly sought after in the magical world, and often the people seeking them do so for unsavoury reasons. With the sword in her possession, Bethany has gone from being an unknown apprentice to being one of the most well known figures in magic, but that has also put a target on her back.
Note: Even though the sword is almost as large as Bethany, it is surprisingly light and easy for her to weild. This is because the blade is made up of pure magic, which is essentially weightless, so the only weight comes from the hilt, guard and pommel.
Name: Amy “Skye” Avery
Alias: Mach-10
Powers: Hypersonic Flight (Up to approx 7673mph/ 12348kph), Extreme Friction/ Heat/ G-Force ResistanceAlways something of a dreamer, Amy Avery got the nickname “Skye” from her friends because she always had her head in the clouds. Ironic, considering her (at the time) undiscovered power to fly. However, when she discovered her power, Amy changed. Her power seemed to motivate her and allowed her to focus in a way that she never had before, almost as if that part of her had been lying dormant as well. Now she shoots through the sky as Mach-10, a reference to her alleged top speed, which, if true, would make her not just the fastest superhuman in the world, but also the fastest thing in the world as not even the fastest planes or rockets have ever gone as fast as she can.
“Of all the alien life in the universe, few creatures are more mysterious and fascinating as the Alctas. So little is known about this species, even amongst the most knowledgable and well travelled alien races, that their existance is often called a myth. However, when a dead Alctas crash landed on Earth during the later half of the 20th Centruy, finally irrefutable proof of their existance has been found and studies into their biology could be conducted. That was the theory anyway, before the body started to decompose at an alarming rate. Efforts were made to salvage as much genetic material as possible, but very little was viable for research afterwards. And of course, humans being humans, their first thought was to weaponise it. Attempts were made to clone the Alctas using the genetic material, but direct one-to-one cloning attmepts proved to be unsuccessful. However, once the scientists on the project turned their attention to splicing the gene sequence into the human genome they found more success. They created 5 viable embryos by combining Alctas DNA with human embryonic stem cells, of which 3 survived. Which is where Levy comes in. As one may have already guessed, Levy was one of those test tube babies created using alien DNA. She was by far the subject with the most potential, having the ability to shift between a human form and a form closely resembling that of an Alctas (though not a perfect replication, due undoubtedly to the mixture with human DNA). She also has various abilities not seen in a normal human being, such as levitation, a wide variety of psychic powers (including, but not limited to; telepathy, telekinesis, astral projection, minor precognition, psychometry and emotional control of others), so, unless she was born superhuman alongside her alien DNA (something that is highly unlikely, but not impossible) this gives some insight into the abilities of the Alctas as a species. Unfortunately, Levy is no longer under observation. She escaped a few days ago. Though it is unlikely that she would do any intentional harm to others (her personality is not vindictive or agressive, generally more curious and empathetic) the unstable nature of her genetic make-up, coupled with a lack of social skills from being raised in general isolation as a scientific test subject make her reactions to uncontrolled exterior stimuli unpredictable and, therefore, potentially dangerous. This, combined with the fact that she is government property and still of use in study, leads to a recomendation of immediate capture. She is too valuable to be allowed free.”-Professor H. Alan Clarke
So, we’ve seen a fair bit of Isabella Collins aka Golden Guardian, so now let’s meet her brother shall we.
The grandson of WW2 superheroes The American (Walter Collins) and Miss Liberty (Mary Carter), Thomas Collins grew up idolising his grandparents and wanting nothing more than to be a super famous hero like they were. Of course, when his powers emerged, he lept at the chance to prove himself as a hero. His original forays went… less than according to plan, but it did get him a lot of attention, and a lot of girls, so he counted that as a win. However, his parents didn’t approve, so he was handed off to his grandfather for training and to learn discipline. Much more mature now than he was as a teen superhero, Thomas has taken up the mantel of The American in tribute to his grandfather. His powers are much the same as his sisters, he is a peak human fitness with reflexes better than even the best fighter pilot, alongside the strength to lift approximately 5 tonnes. The one thing he does have over his sister is that Thomas inherited their grandfather’s resistance to damage. He’s not invulnerable, but his skin is very hard to pierce, making him relitively safe from stabbing or most low calibre gun fire. Thomas is also a very astute tactical mind, thanks to his grandfather’s rigerous tuition. He can read sistuations incredibly fast and assess the best course of action. He tends to keep a cool head in most situations, though he still does sometimes slip back into his more show-off tendancies around ladies he fancies. And he’s really competitive with his sister (though he has never beaten her in a fight, much to his embaressment and annoyance).
So, I’ve been on a bit of a Golden Guardian (who you can see on the last page) kick, so I decided to go and do a few alternate outfits for her civilian identity, Isabella Collins. As we’ve already had her superhero costume and a workout outfit, I thought we’d go with a couple of casual ones, a smart outfit and then beachwear and pyjamas, because why not.
Also, have some facts about the character, yay world building.
Character Facts:
-Though she does think her first name is something of a mouthfull and a bit unweildy, she hates having it shortened. Only her family and her absolute closest friends are allowed to get away with calling her “Izzy” and woebetide anyone who calls her “Bella”. To everyone else it’s “Isabella”.
-Isabella Collins is very good friends with Lucy Falkner, aka Superstar of The Protectors. Considering that both were basically brought up around superheroics (Isabella through her family and Lucy through, well, force by her family) they hit it off very quickly and seem to understand each other better than anyone else. Isabella was one of the few friends who really helped Lucy through the difficult period after she finally got free from her father, even bailing her out of a few very sticky situations. Lucy trusts Isabella so much that she has even given her a key to her house, just in case anything happens (also, Lucy is one of the few people that Isabella doesn’t mind being called Izzy by).
-She is a massive arachnaphobe. She will not stand any spiders being in the same room as her and has even put a hole through a wall trying to kill one in the past.
-Out of all of her family, Isabella was closest to her Grandfather when growing up. Both she and her brother loved to sit and listen to him tell stories of his exploits during the war and the post-war years. Of course, they’d have to check with Grandma afterwards to find out what bits were true and what were… “slightly embelished”. Grandpa Walt also let them play with his old costume, even though it’s practically a museum piece and worth a fortune.
-Growing up as the Grandchildren of famous superheroes, Isabella and her brother were both famous-by-proxy throughout their formative years and all the kids at school wanted to know them. Whilst her brother took full advantage of this (and used it to get a lot of girls when he discovered his powers), Isabella was much more reserved, not being much of a show off. Of course, nobody was going to bully her or try to make her do anything, considering her family, but Isabella was in an awkward place in school, not one of the real popular kids, but not someone who people didn’t want to be friends with. Also, unlike her brother, she never used her status or powers to get dates, in fact she flat out turned down any guy who ever asked her out.So, I’m actually going to be entering a contest. Been a while.
Name: Holly BarrettAlias: OwlPowers: Enhanced Vision (Can see much further than the average human, night vision), Enhanced Hearing, High IntelligenceAfter the break up of Strike Force, Owl was left to pick up the pieces. Though it was an extremely difficult time, it wasn’t all for naught, as Owl came to realise that she was transgender. Having now undergone her transistion, Owl (who now goes by the civilian name Holly Barrett) is in a much happier place, even starting to date Transistor from Pride. Of course, not everything is perfect, there is still the matter of her brother, the supervillain Mindmaster, who, as always, is out trying to make his sister’s life a living hell. The more things change, the more they stay the same.Also, decided to do a couple of variations for this one. Which one do you guys like the most?LtR:Mindmaster ColoursStrike Force ColoursBrown OwlSnowy OwlSo, after doing Barricade and Turbo Girl redesigns, I got inspired to do a redesign of Alex Cole, aka Strong Girl, because a) the body I used for Barricade just needed a few tweeks to be perfect for her and b) Strong Girl and Turbo Girl basically have the same powers so why not do both? Also, I seem to be doing a fair few musclular ladies recently. And my explaination for that is….
Cool, moving on.
Much like Turbo Girl (who can absorb any energy and transfer it into kinetic energy for her own use), Alex Cole can absorb kinetic energy and transfer it into, well, strength. The harder she is hit the stronger she becomes and for longer. Due to the forces involved, it is fair to say she is also super-resistant to any kind of physical damage. Her skeletal and musclular structures are reinforced to the point where, even without any strength increase at all, she could probably survive having a truck dropped on her with minimal damage. However, one thing her body struggles to cope with is the constant height and weight shifting, which does seem to be having a degenerative effect on her bones and causing her no small amount of discomfort, even severe pain after returning to her normal size in some extreme cases. Because of this, she tries not to use her powers whenever possible and has tried to retire from superhero work, however (much like Turbo Girl again), Alex has no control over her powers and they are always active, so there is always the chance that they could be triggered. Also, being an ex-superhero means trouble kinda follows you where-ever you go, no matter how much you try to avoid it.
A little and large, opposites attract superhero couple, Kathy Collins (aka. Turbo Girl) and Serena Shaw (aka Barricade) never-the-less make a great team. Kathy (the more hot-headed, emotionally volitile and outgoing of the pair) can absorb any energy she comes into contact with and convert it into kinetic energy. Once she starts moving there isn’t a force on earth that can stop her. In contrast Serena (who despite her size is far more shy and reserved, but far more level-headed and stable) is both super strong and completely immovable. If she decideds to stand her ground, nothing will ever move her. She could be hit by a tidal wave and she’d still be standing in the exact same spot.
Extra Facts:
– Serena enjoys gardening and is a very good seamstress. In fairness, she kinda has to be, she grew out of even the largest womens clothes in her late teens and has had to make her own ever since. She put these talents to good use, making both her and her girlfriends costumes (though hers was mostly salvaged scrap from an old Negadroid and is mostly just to stop her getting scratched by shrapnel from anything that hits her).
– Kathy’s energy absorbtion power is permenantly active, meaning she has an unfortunate tendancy to build up energy reserves doing every day activities and, if she’s not careful, can accidentally release this energy at inoppertune times, which can lead to some property damage (has, sorry, has led to a lot of property damage). Fortunately she lives with someone who a) is basically unaffected by these outbursts and b) is strong enough to clear away even the biggest pile of rubble.
A Jordanian superhuman of Palestinian descent, Sadiq Al-Qadir (also known as Sarab (or mirage in English) due to his power to phase in and out of view like a mirage) is a man who tries to use his powers for the good of his people. For this, many brand him a villain, a superpowered terrorist who is nothing more than a threat hiding behind lofty ideals. But to the people he fights for, Al-Qadir is a hero and a symbol of pride that they can rally behind. In reality, he is both and he is neither, a man fighting for justice and peace in an increasingly injust and peaceless world.
