    I made 50%. I’m surprised; I expected 25%.

I must recommend Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles. Fantasy for the reader who sees poetry potential in physics, even if he doesn’t GET physics. I do, but I wouldn’t NEED to. The Dresden Files leaned that way a little, too.

Hammerknight? I should ask: what do you mean the prize is a title? We have to “submit a genre and title” with our minimum 5 sentences, so, are you proposing an alternate title, making a title page with graphics, or bestowing a title upon the winning author–I’m having trouble imagining my screen name changed to Sir Herr D. . . also, I couldn’t find the poll to vote . . .

My screen name is Herr D, and I’m — a makeaholic. HM was recommended to me by a player of Aberrant. I have used more media and multimedia combinations than I care to remember, mostly to avoid writing. The stories themselves come easy, but I hate the incredibly boring and drawn out processes of longhand, typing, etc. I have forgotten more pages worth of pieces of stories I’ve composed than most authors have published. Koontz and King are the exceptions. I am also a startaholic. There was a time I would refuse to finish a piece (of whatever) until it sold, but I’ve never SOLD writing. I have been paid to write instructions for equipment I used, but that’s not the same thing. Several people have told me to try serializing — so I’m trying that now, here.

    mmm–sure. . . here:
My 1rst gr. teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I hadn’t really been listening, so I said, “a giant.” The class laughed at me then, and again after: “I meant your career as an adult?” / “Ohhhh.” Then the teacher showed how well she knew me, “Why would you want to be a giant?” / “So I could have my head in the clouds with both feet planted firmly in the mud.” I don’t remember her compliment, just the evil looks I got from the class. Twelve years later, I added that I could ‘travel both roads at once’ to a lit. prof., in discussing “The Road Not Taken.” I don’t remember her compliment either, just the glazed eyes of my classmates. Fifteen years passed, and I explained it again to a stranger–“Did you get there?” / “I’m afraid so.” / “Why?” / “People run when they should listen.” . . .some of my talks run a bit long. . .and require multiple takes. [sigh]

*edit.-My next signature ran approximately: The mutant Storm sent the mutant Beast a postcard. It read: The weather is here. Wish you were beautiful.
The one after says: Someone asked me had I lost my mind, and I replied that it was still at the other end of my eyestalks. They grumbled about signing the non-disclosure forms. Such a useless behavior, even for a h- um, a person with a lot to do.

Exact weapon or weaponized spell for me varies by character, but I always prefer ranged behind cover because I always wind up playing low HP or half insane or erratic characters. For versatility, I like the whip. Add a tip for fatal strikes (or carry two,) disarm, trip, destroy mechanism (sacrifice whip,) climb, ‘bridge,’ fetch, bind, torture, usable short range or melee with no adjustment, or strangle someone if you have stealth. Some GM’s agree that a master level whip user can use a rope with no weights at expert level, chain at amateur level. That brings in replacement bonus.

I always end up playing humans, halflings or gnomes, but my favorite thing abt race I ever ‘witnessed?’

a half orc had to help earn passage on a ship, so submitted for manual labor
a sailor was abt to show her how to brush tar on the side of the ship and she sighed and said:
“Okay, turn around, I’ll do your back first.” I thought the GM was going to drop his dice.

Among standard rpgs, my favorite played was a gnome fighter/mage. He worked in a circus doing a magic act (only the REAL stuff here!) and ‘making’ the other performers safe. He didn’t cross-class until his first ‘adventure.’

Of custom character creation, I keep coming back to a variation on a theme: a chaotic neutral human fighter with a chaotic neutral IQ ‘enchanted’ (player mystery) to hyperdexterity. Either arm or his right leg can outfight two average opponents while he covers his face and trembles in fear, clearly not wanting to be involved. Quite an image, huh? It’s not blindfighting six opponents if you’re not paying attention and not controlling it anyway. Wink

Thx, Myro. I am concerned I was too vague at a couple of points–was any part of it unclear?
I thought I should try to get over my hate/love relationship with finishing art, and serializing some sci-fi seemed simpler than picking out a pic place, paying payments to publish pix and posting my preposterous applications of peculiar adaptations of partially depicted paraphenalia. http://www.heromachine.com/wp-content/legacy/forum-smileys/sf-laugh.gif

*edit.-heh-heh. I guess I couldn’t resist making my own gallery. Funny that I would think I would stick to ONE medium.
