fuzztoneMemberI like Gold Spider a great deal. It looks like a portrait photo where she’s got really bored of being made to wait around….sooo hacked off!
fuzztoneMemberAh…. SODWA. The tension! The drama!
Having looked at the Honorable Mentions so far I reckon I’ve got no chance with a cast of lightly edited re-workings. But v2.0 is a chance to do things better than before, so here’s my favourite entry, Fireball 2.0:

fuzztoneMemberWowsers. The effort was worth it all right. Absolutely love it; I can see that one turning up in an episode of “Doctor Who” and giving kids nightmares!
PS The big image is being cut off about two thirds of the way across. It’s a shame not to be able to see all of something so cool….
fuzztoneMemberNo worries, Nathanyael. That’s a great improvement – dramatic and sinister. Hope she makes it out in one piece!
fuzztoneMemberGood stuff – I realised I’d seen your stuff before when I saw the bath image!
The prison image is very well done. These low-light images are tricky in HM (still working on some myself!). The challenge is that you want the female figure to be shaded and murky, but she still needs to be catching our attention. I would suggest lowering the level on the torch light and moving it quite a bit to the left, as it’s probably more prominent than it needs to be. You can then do some shading work on Myriam and the monster to make the scene look like it’s being lit from that side (highlights and lowlights!).
Hope that’s not too much advice… looking forward to seeing the next one.
fuzztoneMemberWelcome back. I was browsing the HM Hall of Fame and yours was one of the names where I was thinking “Oh, they were good, where are they these days….?”
I really like the team shots, too. Excellent stuff.
fuzztoneMemberHeromachine uses Adobe Flash. The character items are all Flash objects and HM saves your character data to your computer as a Flash cookie.
If you leave Flash a really small amount of cache space you won’t be able to use lots of objects in HM and If you block all cookies you’ll be able to create characters but not to save them. The only way to do that would be to save the character data as a text file and load it up each time.
If you’re worried you can set up Flash to allow cookies from certain sites but not others – have a look at the Flash Settings in your Control Panel / System Preferences.
fuzztoneMemberOh, I remember the “Hail Money” one from one of the contests! Always liked that one. Although it appears to have Elmo’s eyes, if you know what I mean.
fuzztoneMemberI realised that I had a space in one of my hero teams for an elemental/energy type character – so here she is…
Solaris, aka Demi Asomoah
Solaris is a mutant who derives her powers from the ability to absorb and store vast amounts of solar energy. She can then use this energy as a basis for her psychokinetic powers, including levitation / flight, and heat/light energy attacks. Unlike those mutants who derive their energy from their own physical resources, Solaris needs to constantly top up her energy levels by exposure to sunlight. Consequently her effectiveness is much reduced at night, or in enclosed areas where sunlight does not penetrate. Her mood and personality is also much affected by the weather and the availability of sunlight, and her dependence on unpredictable weather phenomenon has led her to become almost pagan in her devotion to the Sun.
She’s pictured here welcoming the sunrise after a long and dark night.

fuzztoneMemberTwo characters for the price of one pose….? I might well let this one out for the community to play with (.txt file linking notwithstanding).
Ruslana Makarov, aka Stormbird.
According to legend, the Stormbird sings just before the deluge begins. The name started as a joke; now it seems more appropriate than ever. Ruslana is a leading agent in the Russian National Security Bureau (NSB), and runs the London field office, with particular responsibility for mutant-related criminal activities affecting Russian interests. She is a mutant herself, and exhibits highly-developed psychokinectic skills, including levitation, telekinesis and short-range teleportation. She is also a skilled agent, well versed in espionage field craft, hand to hand combat and firearms.
The weapon she’s holding in the picture is a specially designed NSB personal defence weapon, which fires two kinds of ammunition. The first is a high-velocity round capable of piercing body armour; the second a low-velocity incendiary bullet which ignites inside the target, overcoming the powers of rapid self-healing exhibited by many mutants.
Note: you may need to open the image in a separate browser tab to see all of it – seems like there’s a width limit on these here forums…!
fuzztoneMemberTop work – a great pic, loving the spin on the Hindu goddess imagery. The tasteful additions you’ve made in the name of decency take nothing away from “Keeper of Hearts” or “Grasping Sea”; in fact it’s probably an opportunity to add some of those fabulous jewel coloured outfits….! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your work.
fuzztoneMemberBeware the jub-jub bird, and shun
the frumious bandersnatch…
fuzztoneMember.txt file attached (I hope…)
fuzztoneMemberWill add the .txt file for the background. Knock yourselves out! I’ve also noticed (although I haven’t added it to a character yet) that interesting effects can be made by layering low colour strength items over others – seems to be the possiblity for metallic colours and so on, which is interesting.
fuzztoneMemberHiya. It is all done in HM3, honest. The only thing I ever do outside of it is to crop the pictures (I find that it’s difficult to get everything lined up straight!).
That background is just based on items from the Background/Shapes section. It’s a simple coloured backdrop (third item page, first row, second column), which I’ve then overlayed with several layers of the concentric circle background (second page, second row, fourth column). Make the first layer the biggest, and reduce the colour opacity to a really low figure (the results vary hugely depending on what you select, so you’ll have to play around). Typically I’d do something like Colour 1 0%, Colour 2 10%, Colour 3 2%. Add another of the same item, but reduce the size by around 5% on each axis. Keep adding layers and you’ll see that odd effects start to appear as each added layer increases the colour strength.
