fuzztoneMemberThe gradient side of things can be a bit tricky to get right with the smaller items, such as hands. What you can do is to duplicate the hand or item, making it with the same size and location values as the first one, and then mask a gradient on to that. After you’ve masked the gradient to the hand, turn the colours down to zero on the duplicate hand and send it to the back layer of the image (layer 1, probably) so that it’s out of the way. The masked gradient, though, will stay where it was, and you can then change the size, colour, etc, to your heart’s content, knowing that it will always only show up in the boundaries of the hand.
fuzztoneMemberHi Basic
Nice to see you over here! Are all of the last image set available as attachments? I can’t see the first couple of characters as the previews are too big for the screen…
fuzztoneMemberContest entry: Bulgarian Boxer! (You can call him Vasil).

fuzztoneMemberTo begin at the beginning:
It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless
and bible-black, the cobblestreets silent and the hunched,
courters’-and-rabbits’ wood limping invisible down to the
sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboatbobbing sea.
The houses are blind as moles (though moles see fine to-night
in the snouting, velvet dingles) or blind as Captain Cat
there in the muffled middle by the pump and the town clock,
the shops in mourning, the Welfare Hall in widows’ weeds.
And all the people of the lulled and dumbfound town are
sleeping now.(good night, all)
fuzztoneMemberRead the Poses thread on the old UGO forums (we should really bring that thread over!), then have a look at some of the stock photo libraries (Getty Images, Shutterstock) or ComicVine’s image galleries. Pick an image you like, then try and replicate it.
fuzztoneMemberWell done him. I managed not to vote in the poll, which is kind of ironic. I’ll get the hang of this forum eventually…
fuzztoneMemberCat Blasting is not something I recommend. But – as any cat owner knows – it is occasionally something that comes to mind (normally at about 4am when she’s woken me up to demand food…)
fuzztoneMemberThanks very much indeed, Scatman!
For the random character name contest, I came up with “Cat Blaster”. It was done quite quickly (and a bit shoddily) and I thought that the character involved deserved better. So… here’s the Ruby Avenger:

Back story to follow…
The original Cat Blaster pic is attached, if you want to see it!
fuzztoneMemberHi
Just passing through and wanted to say there’s lots of really good stuff here. I really like the Crest, though; those bells and whistles really do put it in the Premier League.
fuzztoneMemberFrom the entries to Character Contest 93, I’d like to nominate Nyoka, the Jungle Girl, by Jack Zelger.

fuzztoneMemberDo we put the nominations here, then? If so, can i nominate Neuphorya and Agonia, from Harlequin’s “Love is Always Win”. It’s more artwork than herowork, but still…

fuzztoneMemberVery good. As a rule, it’s essential to know where your towel is. And where to get a decent cup of tea. So she seems to be sorted…
fuzztoneMemberI love Weather Girl. Storm could learn a great deal from her: a decent mac and a strong brolly is what you need!
fuzztoneMemberCheers mate. Here’s the “after”… (quite subtle!)

One thing I noticed is that uploading to the HM forums gives a much better image quality than using something like Photobucket (which seems to introduce all kinds of compression artifacts). Which means I can now see the insignia outlines I should have fixed the first time around… (mutter, curse). All done now, though.
As for the solid colouring work… I think that’s as far as I go; my PC’s a bit elderly and (to quote Mr Scott), the dilithium crystals cannae take much more…
Nice to play around with a high-contrast image, though, and it’s amazing the different effect that occurs with a big highlight (as on the lower leg) as to the smaller ones (which I’ve been using up to now).
fuzztoneMemberBlimey. You’re far too kind…
Anyhoo. I seem to be revising old characters at the moment. Had another go at Harlequin… all comments on contrast/highlighting welcome as I’m revising myself into knots…
