CantDrawParticipantGood to have you back! I can’t wait to see what else you have up your proverbial sleeve.
CantDrawParticipantThese characters are amazing! I love the masks and Ermy is definitely my favorite. Great shading, too.
CantDrawParticipantHere’s my entry to Contest #50:
I slightly redesigned Red Bat by giving her a mask instead of a helmet and I took away the belt. BTW, this is a kung fu dragon stance.
CantDrawParticipantHere’s my attempt at a tutorial on making sparkles, or as I prefer to call it, “shine”. All you need is the following:
All of these are white gradient of various sizes. They are in order from left to right and top to bottom: 2×2, 2×5, 10×1, 1×10, and 10×3 faded a bit.Put them all together and you get this:
Taking it out of headshot mode, it looks like this:
I threw in a couple of others for a little variety. Try out some different lengths, widths, and colors and see what you get.Hope this helps!
CantDrawParticipantAs soon as I get a chance, I’ll try to put together a little tutorial, maybe tonight or tomorrow. Someone had requested a tutorial on my shading style, as well, so I may do one on that, too.
CantDrawParticipantReturning to Red Bat, meet her former partner and mentor, St. Sapphire:
BIO:
St. Sapphire and Red Bat where the most succesful crime-fighting duo three years ago. That all changed when St. Sapphire was mysteriously killed one stormy night. After signaling Red Bat about an unknown villian, she was smashed into the ground. Red Bat found her soon after but doesn’t know who killed her. Sapphire’s sister, Dr. Emily Silver (sound familiar?), designed her suit which provided flight and enhanced strength. She also took out bad guys with her stun gun.I plan on doing a picture with both of them, possibly a butt shot.
CantDrawParticipantI’m in! Especially, since I didn’t have time to do FNF.
CantDrawParticipantI love the robots! I also like how they seem to be breaking the fourth wall. Nice touch!
CantDrawParticipantThose wings are really cool. Excellent job on the shading, too.
CantDrawParticipantI’m doing something I never do, revision a character. In this case, it’s the one I just posted. Compare and see what a difference the eyes make.
I added a few other embellishments, like ears (I can’t believe I forgot those).
CantDrawParticipantThank you Linea24! That means a lot coming from you. I can’t decide whether I like her face or not. It’s mainly the eyes, I think. For my next trick, I’m going to try to figure out a different way of making eyes that really pop (not the exploding, oozing type). Also, I want to add more movement and shine to my pictures. I’ve been inspired by some of the art on DeviantArt. My goal is to eventually create a Red Bat comic and possibly a Sumina-verse one, as well, but I still have much to learn.
BTW, I mentioned before that I’m attempting to write a novel, but so far I only have one sentence, so it’s going to take while.
CantDrawParticipantHere’s a fairy for autumn:
CantDrawParticipantWhat? No pirate jokes, especially using the word “booty”? I’m shocked! Well, if that didn’t “shiver your timbers”, perhaps this new Red Bat villian will. Here’s the vivacious Fluffy, in Spoiler-Vision:
BIO:
Fluffy is one of Red Bat’s more crazy and dangerous opponents. Born with a genetic mutation, she has super-strong legs that allow her to hop like a rabbit. She can bounce to great heights and fights like a kickboxer. Fluffy has been known to crush a person’s head with her thighs.Admittedly, I didn’t spend as much time on this as I could have. The problem is, I have a ton of ideas but so little time to create. Family and work doesn’t leave me much free time. So there will be more Red Bat, pirates, and yes, even fairies (those take the longest), but sadly you’ll just have to wait.
BTW, I created this character to mock White Rabbit, a waste of a Batman villian.
CantDrawParticipantOkay, Herr D, you were right. I can’t stay away from HM. I started on a novel but there is no way I’m writing it in a month. Next up for HM, pirates! Arrrrrgh! Lately, I’ve become interested in these swarthy characters. In my head, I’m picturing a Soul Calibur type game but only with pirates, instead of just one. So, here’s the first, Captain Paine:
BIO:
Captain Paine was once a slave on a merchant vessel but led a mutiny and took over as captain. She overcame her captors due to her intelligence and training in eastern fighting arts. Somehow her years of torture and anger imbued itself into an ancient weapon now known as the Chain of Paine. Anyone who wields it experiences physical pain but the recipient of it’s barbed ends receives double.
CantDrawParticipantI think you’re right. I like the bottom half of the top I used but I should have used something different for the top half. Oh well, live and learn. That’s what I get for not putting in the usual amount of effort.
And, while I’m feeling chatty, I’m on the fence on whether I’m going to do FNF this time since I’m considering trying my hand at the write a novel in November thing. I’ve thought about doing it for the past couple of years but I’ve never done it. If I do, I may be out of touch on HM for a while.
