Project 19 is a ragged group of heroes in the 22nd century. They are the last remaining resistance against the tyrannical Sphinx Foundation, which now rules the country with an iron fist and a cruel, hard hammer under the command of the villainous White Scare. America has been plunged into a second dark ages by the Sphinx executives. Anyone unable to pay the hefty price for comfortable living is forced to live in the ruins of the cities that once were, surviving on the remains. All five of these heroes were part of Sphinx’s efforts to create a superhuman, mentally controlled army. They were discarded when thought to be unable to cope with their bio-technologically installed powers.Billy Bravo, like the other members of the team, has no recollection of his life before the experiment that gave him his powers. He is the reluctant leader of the team, often letting the others make decisions to keep the pressure off of himself.

All Lester Treadwell wanted to do was wrestle. And he did, with great success. He became the world champion wrestler under the name Big Shot. He went undefeated for years until a breakthrough medical test was issued to all professional sports figures, and it was discovered that Big Shot was a mutant who became stronger every time he took a blow. He was immediately banned from wrestling.He sued the NAW (National Association of Wrestling) for discrimination against mutants and a lengthy trial took place. In the end it was decided that though mutants had an unfair advantage and shouldn’t be allowed to wrestle for the NAW, a new wrestling network would be formed. The ASW (Association of Superhuman Wrestling) turned out to be profitable for everyone. Mutants and other superhumans could wrestle each other, on national television, thereby publicizing themselves, practicing their skills, and meeting others like them, and the public had a new and exciting sport to watch, which meant a huge revenue increase for NAW, which was the mother corporation of the ASW. Soon hundreds of supers became a part of what would become the fastest growing sport in the history of the world.

Dr. Lamiere is the head of the Physics Department at Brainstorm Enterprises, the top R & D company in America that specializes in creating state-of-the-art technology. But his life was turned upside-down the day he found a metal man alone and scared on the streets of Caligo, and took the poor soul under his wing. This steel fellow, who would later be dubbed the Galvanized Man, had no memory of his past or how he had come to be composed entirely of living metal. The Galvanized has lived with Dr. Lamiere, an aging bachelor, and the scientist has taken it upon himself to teach his charge the fundamentals of right and wrong.Pictures:

As a child, Underwood was taken from his mother, the villainess Fauna, and placed in the care of his father, Abe Underwood, a normal. Lyle at first exhibited no powers, to the relief of his father. But once the baby grew to understand animals, his genetic abilities began to surface. It was soon clear that Lyle could change himself into any animal he wished. As hard as Abe tried, he could not convince his son to hide these powers, and the young boy was soon discovered during an incident at school, earning him the insulting name of the Creature. He was sought after by the M.A.C.H.I.N.E., the organization who gave Fauna her powers but, sensing the danger, he escaped. Lyle and his father secretly fled Caligo City without capture.No information has been collected as to where they fled. It is known, however, that agents of the M.A.C.H.I.N.E. caught up to the them and killed Abe Underwood. Lyle, who had then grown to 19 years of age, killed the agents and once again escaped.
From there he joined the Arken Travelling Circus, where he put his powers to use before crowds of fans. At this point he began calling himself Animan. Again, M.A.C.H.I.N.E. agents caught up to him, this time bringing Lyle’s mother, Andrea, who has the power of mind control over animals other than humans. Lyle was forced to surrender. He spent 6 years with the organization, much of the time being studied for cloning. Over the years, Andrea was able to gain complete control over her son.
But something she did or said broke her hold over him. It is rumored that she referred to his father negatively, and the boy’s love for his father overpowered Fauna’s spell. Lyle once again escaped, confused by the conflicting nature of his raising. His father had always taught him to be a good, selfless person, but his mother had tried to corrupt him.
Seeing no answer in his own heart, Lyle ended up on the doorstep of a Catholic church, where he was taken in by a sisterhood of nuns. The sisters strengthened Abe Underwood’s teachings of love and kindness, and Lyle at last found his true calling in life. He would protect the world from the evils that had shattered his life and taken his father.
Now on his own, Lyle assumed the identity of Beast Man. He is always looking over his shoulder for members of the M.A.C.H.I.N.E., but doesn’t let that distract him from his newfound life’s mission. His efforts were noticed by the hero Shield, and he was brought into the then young super team The Dynamos. He hopes to one day turn his mother from the forces of evil.
