I loove the steampunk elf!I really would love to try this whole steampunk stuff,Ah,maybe when I get up the nerve
Thank you very much!
I’ve actually found steampunk to be way easier to use than I thought. I just throw a bunch of techy, clockworky, leathery stuff together and hope for the best, and usually it works fine.@Dionne Jinn said:
Yeah, we do. I’m not that good with Finnish mythology either, to tell you the truth, but Näkki (Näck with Finnish spelling) I do know about.
Well, I feel I have neglected Finnish mythology here. Here’s a massive sea monster to make up for that.
Iku-Turso
This beast, thought to have been the last remaining specimen of its species, could be spotted in the Gulf of Bothnia off the Finnish coast until the early 18th century, when it died and washed ashore near the city of Oulu. While it wasn’t nearly as hostile as the sailors of the Baltic sea used to claim, it did destroy at least four Swedish, six Finnish and two Polish vessels, presumably out of pure curiosity. Large portions of the creature’s skeleton have now been lost, but most of what remains is kept at the Finnish Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of Finland, both in Helsinki.November 5, 2012 at 10:07 am #13505
JR19759KeymasterWhen I first looked at that picture I was wondering why you’d uploaded just a black rectangle. But then I moved and all I can say is NICE ONE. One slight problem though, the middle of the image isn’t very clear and any detail is lost compared to the stuff around the edges.

WeilynMemberThank you!
I’m not having that problem, but I’ve noticed that darker images can appear very differently depending on the screen one’s using. So thanks for telling me.
Here’s a slightly brighter version:

Dionne JinnMemberOh! My! God! I love Iku-Turso! I would love to have one in an aquarium It is so horrifyingly-monstrous that it is almost cute.

He was a blast to make, and researching him made me want to read Kalevala again.November 5, 2012 at 12:14 pm #13513
TrekkieParticipantOh wow, Iku-Turso’s fantastic!

WeilynMemberThanks, Trekkie!
Continuing the Finnish theme, here’s Louhi, queen of the frozen land of Pohjola.
November 5, 2012 at 2:25 pm #13525
Dionne JinnMemberVery good representation in my opinion. Louhi is a rather fachinating character.

Farren Craig.
When a horrible laboratorial accident left this elven military engineer dismembered and disfigured he decided to make the best of the situation.I really love the burned/irritated skin on this one.

Thank you! Coming from a genuine Finn that means a lot

Thank you! It was a simple effect, but it turned out better than I imagined.

LegatusParticipantYour creations are great. The Iku-Turso and the steampunk elf, but I absolutely love your Kittelsen-inspired Näck picture.

WeilynMemberThanks, man! Maybe I should move onto German folklore next
Until then, here’s my contribution to Snail-Male’s thread: Post your Abstract Hero machine Creations here. The image there is slightly larger than this.
Don’t you think we should be heading back soon?

Bad-PeopleParticipantI always use small dogs as bait when I’m fishing for giant Lovecraftian monsters.
