ScatmanMemberreally great start ,and quick development.I have been using hm3 for about 4 months and I learned leaos and bounds simply from looking at others work and asking”how the hell did they do that?”It is a question that will open many doors to the things you can do here!great concepts and I will guarentee you will advance quickly!

therianthropeParticipantThanks again for the positive reinforcement everyone!

You could use some work on layer order and use of hands, otherwise really great stuff.
Yeah, looking back at some of the early ones, there are some things that bother me here and there but I think it’s worth preserving their flawed states
I finished this one a couple days ago, but it is another avatar request from a forum member and I wanted to be sure they were happy with it before I posted a final version. In the original draft she had long skirts and was barefoot, which I kind of liked more than the pants and boots, even though it’s not necessarily a practical representation of the character, but ahh well. The customer is always right!

therianthropeParticipantHere’s the results of my latest avatar request. I actually dabbled (ever so slightly) in highlights and masking with this one, which admittedly has made me want to go back and revise some works… I got kind of lazy with the background but, what are ya gonna do? Also, it was my first dwarf (non-standard human proportions) so that was a fun challenge.

It feels pretty good comparing one’s earliest work to newer creations. And you can always remake them later, if you are so inclined.
The dwarf looks great! I love the symphony of beards he’s got going on, there.
The highlighting looks pretty solid. A trick I use is imagining from where the light is coming (I usually go with the upper left corner). This makes it easier to figure out where shadows and highlights should be placed. The placement of the light source can also affect the “feel” of a picture (a more fitting word escapes me at the moment..). A charging soldier in shining metal armour would look more imposing with the light hitting him in the front, sending reflections from his armour into the eyes of his enemy, while a sneaky bloke might look better with the light source behind him, obscuring his features.Hope that’s of any use. Otherwise, sorry for rambling

therianthropeParticipantHey all!
So, when last you heard from me it was I guess about 9 months ago and I was HM3ing up a storm. Well, at that time I was unemployed so it was great I didn’t have anything better to do, but then right around the last time you heard from me, I got a job. And between that and other life events, I’ve been too preoccupied to do anything new, and I basically just stopped making Heroes. Well, I’ve come back with a new one.
Here’s an NPC from the campaign I’m running. Basically she’s a young Sioux girl who has an affinity for speaking with spirits of man, as well as reading minds. Nothing particularly interesting or complex about it, more just a little vignette meant to tell a small bit of a story…
Hopefully, I’ll have the time and inspirado to be around a bit more often.

therianthropeParticipantSo, turns out I found some things I wanted to do.
This one’s not a hero portrait, per se (perhaps more like a villain?), just a story in a picture. Enjoy.
AND the re-touched version.

HammerknightParticipantGreat work on the faces.
June 20, 2013 at 1:50 pm #26481
therianthropeParticipantThanks, Hammerknight!
Now that I’ve started making things again, I realize I missed it quite a bit.
Next in line here I have this dragoon knight. This is mainly just a proof of concept to myself… doesn’t particularly thrill me except for the saddle, especially with the losses incurred going through photobucket – but what are ya gonna do? Still figured it’s worth sharing.

therianthropeParticipantDecided it was about time to do a self-portrait, so this happened…
June 21, 2013 at 3:01 pm #26511
Herr DParticipantAwh, man! If you were going to pose for a self-portrait, couldn’t you AT LEAST have brushed your tail?!
June 24, 2013 at 9:36 am #26609
therianthropeParticipantHeh, what can I say? I like to go au natural.
June 25, 2013 at 12:36 pm #26638
therianthropeParticipantHere’s the latest in my story-telling line… This one was quite a bit of fun. Hope you like!
(P.S. similar to the dragoon knight, you’d have to right-click and go to “View Image” to see the whole thing…)

therianthropeParticipantMy wife’s a big AiW fan, so I made her this real quick-like today.
Also, if you were unsure, he is a public domain character…
