StulteParticipantThanks a lot! I’ll be adding a few more portraits before I’m done with him, but I think I’ll concentrate on something else for a while. Can’t just make the same character over and over.
A Toa (warrior) of Tu’i Manu’a Malae; Queen of Transaequaria.
Transaequaria being the European name of an alternate history Polynesia.

Mad JackParticipantToa looks fierce. I really like your steampunk characters…

StulteParticipantThanks, Mad Jack!
Took a request for a portrait from HernesOwn. Fun project, and it gave me a reason to practice shading.
I know there a lot of creators on this forum who are great at shading their characters, so any critique or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

SulemanParticipantI really dig it! The light effect is nice.

StulteParticipantThanks, Suleman, very nice of you to say that.
For the contest, as well as another practice in shading: Angler
Critique on the shading would be awesome, as always

StulteParticipantMaria I Antonia of the house of Braganza. Queen of The New Portuguese Empire.I’ll add shading to this one tomorrow, itäs getting a bit late over here.

StulteParticipant“We are grievously insulted by the poor quality of these assassins. If the Shogun believes House Braganza to be so weak as to be struck down by such glaring ineptitude, then We will relish the opportunity to remedy his misapprehension.
Now, send for a launderer.”April 18, 2014 at 6:53 pm #39545
SulemanParticipantOh my. Nice variation with those blood effects.
I really dig how you understand the big picture. You use parts that might not be the obvious choice by themselves, but really look good when you look at the picture and the parts as a whole. The angler and Maria Braganza are good examples of that.
I personally have the problem of getting overly fiddly with the details, so I really wish I had that skill.April 19, 2014 at 3:39 am #39555
StulteParticipantWow, thanks a lot, you are far too kind. I guess that’s one the things I really like about HeroMachine. The program may seem very rigid and unwieldy, but once you get the hang of it you realize that a skirt makes for a fancy banner, that a pauldron can be a helmet and that a starry sky also can play the role of splattered blood.
I think I’m finished with the Portuguese queen, now.
Note to self: Next time apply the shading before the seventy layers of blood and patterns… Jackass.

Mad JackParticipantWow, that Anglerfish looks really aweseome! Great work, dude!!!

StulteParticipantTokugawa Kosami. Shogun of The Greater Japanese Realm.“She personally killed all our agents? This little war of ours might just prove itself interesting after all.”

Absolutely stunning!

StulteParticipantThanks, djuby! I really just tried to go nuts with that fish and throw random items together, glad to see people seem to like the results.
Shun Ghouzi. 11th Shun Emperor of China.Voted world’s worst dressed dictator eight years running.

Mr.NobodyParticipantYou’d looked at my stuff, so I looked at yours. Man, you are an ill dude (read in a stoner voice and it’s compliment ). Love the Portuguese Queen (bloody version) and, well, pretty much every thing else too.

Herr DParticipantYowza. 1. That princess is exactly the kind of ruler I want ruling the country between the countries of my enemies. (great blurb)
2. I have wanted one of those flashlight fish for a while now. (Nice work.) My last one chewed loose and swam off.
3. The next time I go shopping, I might be looking for one of those dragon scepters . . . -
