JR19759KeymasterThat looks brilliant, I like the colour blending, especially the blue and purple sky.

Herr DParticipantThanx! Ever since the 1970’s, the Earth has had just enough pollution in it’s atmosphere for some really beautiful moonrises, etc.

WMDBASSPLAYERParticipantBetween your sense of humor and your oh so cool art, I always enjoy stopping by your thread. That Rod Serling is FANTASTIC! How long did it take you to copy his face? Great likeness!
October 21, 2013 at 3:59 pm #32832
Herr DParticipantWow. Thanx. I’ve gotten a lot of enjoyment from watching who jumps on my thread.
As to Rod, that took a lot of time and startovers, so I’m not sure how long. His facial shape, wrinkle patterns, and eyebrows were non-standard, so I had to doctor them a lot. In the end, I wound up keeping too many reference photos available–I think I gave him older wrinkles and eyebrows and younger coloring. Ah, well, I have trouble with any subject matter I don’t understand as well. Human faces are TOUGH.
Oh, and I’m shipping you something ETPS.

Man, what a topic! I don’t need to feel homesick . . . oh, well. [digs through some old photos]
Some of you have read me reference the Hairbrush Nebula. This is a shot of the Hairbrush (middle,) the Braid (left,) and the edge of a million-parsec-wide void.http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u438/jamais5/HerrD-HairbrushNebula_zpsfd9c1e36.png
This is a shot of the corona of T21, yellow gas giant. Remarkably stable, considering it’s stage.
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u438/jamais5/HerrD-CoronalViewDuringSolarSailingTrip_zpsf9e84ad0.png. . . this is a shot of an ice-ringed planet near customs for the galactic center.
http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u438/jamais5/HerrD-IceRingShotNearCustoms_zpse0374fcb.pngThis isn’t a photo of outer space so much as a reaction: “Captain? A new vector please?”

–But really, stars are just stars. The technology to move them or make them is COSMIC. And it scares more primitive cultures.October 24, 2013 at 2:44 pm #33022

Oh, all right. There are a few stories about how that million-parsec void started. Most of them boil down to some supernatural being getting mad or lazy or hungry. Of course that’s completely absurd. Obviously to have cleared that area would have taken about thirty black holes. And no one should believe that, because that void bends around the galactic center in an arc completely unlike a black hole or group of black holes would travel.

I’m feeling hungry myself. Probably just nervy about an upcoming interview. Where’s that coupon for a pizza with EVERYTHING?October 26, 2013 at 11:06 am #33078

What kind of piratical slang would result from ‘S.S.’ standing for Saurian Ship?

Well?

And so the question of the week is–why are ghosts so intense? There don’t seem to be any that just hang around, casually leaning against the wall . . .

–Oh.November 1, 2013 at 12:13 pm #33264
Herr DParticipantWhen you use a pulley action to lift a decoration, I call it a decor pulley. I made one of those for my Halloween costume. When I pulled on the pulley, a sleeve and glove I stuffed to look like a human hand lifted the trick-or-treat bucket. One guy asked me if I was a ninja. (?) I turned my eyestalk toward him, and he made a face and left. Some people.
To make things worse, my littlest batted my bucket with hers quite a few times and the costume began coming apart. I shed fabric so many times that a passersby gave me an entire sweater that someone else had dropped, and I didn’t even realize it till I got home.
Add to that the antics of my eldest? She has trouble understanding the whole concept of Halloween. She tried to give her collection bucket to four different houses. At least she didn’t try to give anyone pieces of her costume this year, right?
All in all it was a good night, though. Sunni D went as an old-Republic Jedi, the little ones were a zombie and a sock-monkey-pirate, and I was an alien with only three arms and one eyestalk. Anyone else have any major incidents happen?November 3, 2013 at 11:37 am #33317
Herr DParticipantSome questions turn out to be somewhat unnecessary if you notice the right details.

Hope you all had a happy Halloween.

Herr DParticipantI took a break from handing out resumes to people who don’t believe I’m competent to breathe to drill a certain young person I know on alphabet twice as much as time would normally permit. True to form, she gave no sign she was learning anything at all. I took a break from that and started listening to the mood music for this picture.
I’m going to go get a hug. You don’t need the alphabet for that . . .

Herr DParticipantEven the most precious of hugs didn’t quite do it. Then I remembered music made it worse. –So I pulled out something a little more upbeat to let that hug do it’s work. Rockabilly ’80s pop for some pomposity (is that what they call ‘swag’ now?)

Normally growing up is good for a band, but not them!

Herr DParticipantMovie music is sometimes the best, and I was in my ’80s music. Naturally this jumped out at me. I made it a silhouette partly to avoid copyright problems–but really, this IS what the song is about and from. So I made something like a still remotely resembling period stylized animated credits.

Herr DParticipantDon’t be left aloooone, oh no!
Actually the last song is “Cleanin’ Up The Town” by The Busboys, but it was very important to the first movie “Ghostbusters.” Great piano.
The first song was ‘Blue on Black’ by Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Then the one most people wouldn’t need to guess? ‘Stray Cat Strut’ by the Stray Cats.
