IscariotoParticipantVampy, while that sounds like a good idea, I’m not sure if it will cut down on the fluidity and the ability for people to feel like they’re shaping it as well, if you get what I mean. Though yeah having an outline would work if it was perhaps major events, and vagueish.
As I see it
Invasion
Discovery of Powers
Taking a stab at picking off Troops/Testing powers
Forming a resistance
Fighting Back
Getting Asses Kicked
Travelling to Macau to enlist the help of the Triad
Jumping through hoops for the Triad boss
Some battles
Chasing the fleet through the mainland
Facing off against and joining up with the Red Hand or whatever I called them
Getting superhero costumes, yeah!and so on. The gaps in between can be filled by the participants and all that.
Oh, quick character idea if something wants to use it. The Machinist – someone who can manipulate elements to forge weapons and armor and so forth primarily, but also with the ability to say, touch his finger against the chest of an enemy trooper and force the armor around that point to contort like an arrow and pierce through his chest. Or something. Sorry, thinking out loud.

JR19759KeymasterMight I suggest something slightly different. I think the organic approach we have right now may be the way to go with this. Everyone is keeping an eye on what everyone else is writing and we can see how their characters are developing and guessing where they are going next. We already have defined points of interest (the NPC characters) that we are each incorperating into the story, so why don’t we build the crossovers around them, for example Iscarioto’s character meets up with the Triad boss, my character meets up with the Red Hand boss who suggests that they search for the Triad boss if they want help, crossover between my character and Iscarioto’s maybe two chapters (one written by each, instead of two view points of the same chapter, as it would be in a normal story or comic) then the two split off and do other things for a while. Then everyone meets up at the end for the grand finale.
When the crossovers happen it would be advisable to pre-warn and ask for permission from who ever you are planning to crossover with, to avoid confusion of you writing stories that occur at the same time in two completely different places.
I’ll also add my two pennies worth on the outline. I think it would be better if the forming a resistance came later on. Let everyone go their own way for a bit, try to find out some stuff before bringing everyone together in the finale. We have so many NPC’s that can be bought in and/or investigated that we could all go off on tangents for a while to bring these guys into play before we all get mixed up in interaction between our characters.
Also, I think that in this context the costumes should be as bare minimum as possible/ as realistic as possible, if we should bother with them at all. If you think about it, we are right in the middle of a war zone here. Who in their right mind (or even not in their right mind) sits down to do some fashion design when they have cyborgs shooting lasers at them? I can understand getting some sort of protective bodysuit/ bullet proof clothing and that sort of thing, but going the full spandex would be stupid.
I’ve got another idea for an embellishment of one of the NPC’s. Because the guy who created Empty Vessel has gone missing, wouldn’t it be a good ploy on the behalf of Ascension to put a few robot doubles out in the streets to lure in people who might be trying to find him? Just a thought, and one I will probably run with (although that shouldn’t stop you guys from incorperating it if you want).March 1, 2013 at 2:47 am #20366

Further to the costume part, you’re right. It would be interesting to have a gritty theme on it though, stealing the armor of troops they manage to put down, and then painting them a distinctive shade, roughly, as protection slash intimidation.

JR19759KeymasterWhile I’m here as well, I’ve had a crack at designing what I think the full Ascension cyborgs look like at the start of the story. I would have liked to incorporate Iscarioto’s arm, but the text doesn’t work. I imagined that the participants limbs would have to be removed in order for the enhancements to be fused to their body, which is why there is so much scaring. As the story goes on the design will obviously become much sleeker as Iscarioto said in his basic ideas.
As well as the limb enhancements, I’d imagine these guys would be fitted with some sort of advanced targeting system replacing their right eye. Obvious weak points would have to be removed, especially on the male participants (cyborgs wouldn’t need them anyway, no need to procreate). And with all that, some sort of painkilling solution would need to be administered to stop the cyborg collapsing from the pain of the enhancements, so for the current series, this will be taken orally, until some sort of intravenous system can be devised.I’ll also include the text, incase anyone else wants to add to/edit my current design. Escpecially if you want to add Iscarioto’s enhancement arm.

IscariotoParticipantI plan on writing from the perspective of one of the higher ups in Ascension, so the realization of rogue troopers seeking pleasure women could actually be picked up on, and castration noted as a future ‘revision’ to keep the troops in line. After all, plot wise we are starting from what is initially an army of cobbled together mercenaries who seek mostly money. As the story progresses, Ascension do away with the human aspects, good or bad, and begin to harvest a completely obedient, soul-less horde with no free will.
By the way, JR, that’s absolutely perfect. That’s basically what I had in my mind too. I kind of like the painkiller idea, would explain why they are muted to to massacre at their hands.
On prswirve’s timeline idea, I actually think, while I’m not rooting for it, that there is no reason the timeline could take place over years, the nature of our entries lends itself slightly to that, there is no reason we can’t have a post dated December 2014 which briefly mentions what’s happened in the past while talking about a specific campaign in that time. The gap in time can be fleshed out by another author etc. Personally, I do see the robotic uprising as a major event, the Hong Kong portion could only be weeks, but Mainland China would be months, then there is room for expansion. As Ascension becomes more and more aggravated with the vessels, and with access to an immutable army (via facehugger type tech) then they start going after the home nations of the protagonists. Nuclear strikes anyone?
It becoming a global affair justifies prswirve’s end of the war entry. Which by the way is really nice, and I love the last line. But also dude, lol, it’s very, um “Then they did some things and the war was over. The end.” If it could be amended to a sort of “She did her part, but it was not enough” type of role that would be good. But not as keen on the idea of droid-army shield generators. Taking out a ship like that, which I see as more of a troop transport and vehicle carrier would be a blow, but there are heaps where that came from i’d say
On that note, anyone want a crack at designing those.
CONTEST ONE: The Invasion Craft
I’d like to think yeah, flying, bigger than an aircraft carrier, but not quite kilometeres long or anything like that. Hulking. Along the lines of a star destroyer, crossed with a reaper from Mass Effect, which is essentially my unimaginative mind crossing the two ultimate invasion craft cliches, but we can see what you come up with.
The triangle idea was purposely vague, they can be pyramids, upside down pyramids, obtuse, acute, point as the front, flat as the front, it’s up to you! Design feeatures, landing decks, loading bays, giant engines, legs for tearing up the city. Your call.
No prize unfort, just the satisfaction of creating a super badass mechamonstermachine which will become the undisputed canonical vessel. To be used against the vessels. Yeah. That’s confusing. Yeah.
