Gerald was born of two of the world’s most beloved Golden Age superheroes, Commander Victorious and Lady Vigilant. He father was superhumanly strong and his mother could fly faster than Mach-1 speeds. Gerald inherited both of those powers, and now that his parents have retired he has been trying a little too hard to fill their shoes. He served as his parents’ sidekick as a boy, back when he was called Rocket Boy. Strength and speed-wise, he has surpassed them both, and is now vying for the coveted title of Champion of Caligo City. Below is the transcript from his interview with the Mayor:

Mayor Logan: Ah, welcome Hyperion.

Hyperion: (standing at attention, helmet under the crook of one arm, the other arm saluting the council) Good morning, sir! Hyperion reporting to interview as instructed, sir!

ML: Um, at ease.

H: Thank you! (Sits)

ML: Let’s see now. Oh, it says here that you are the son of legendary superheroes Commander Victorious and Lady Vigilant. That is something. They were quite the role models when I was a teenager.

H: Sir, I am proud of my heritage, sir!

ML: Of course you are. There’s no need to yell. You’re not even a soldier, are you?

H: Um, sir, no sir.

ML: So tell us about yourself then.

H: Sir, I come from a long line of superhumans. As you know, my father was the strongest man of his day, able to lift a locomotive over his head, and my mother could fly faster than a fighter jet. I have acquired both of these powers, as well as their combined loyalty to this great country and to justice for all, sir!

ML: Well, I see nothing wrong with that. This is a bit of a relief, I must admit. The entrants before you were a little sub-par if you want my honest opinion.

H: Sir, thank you, sir!

ML: Thank you for coming, Hyperion, you will be hearing from us.

(Hyperion stands and salutes)

H: Sir, I won’t let you down, sir!

ML: Uh, you’re excused.

Circus Macabre is a group of sadistic supervillains who put on a deadly three-ring show. They lure in their victims with promises of a circus unlike anything ever seen, and it is truly a strange, dark, wonderful spectacle until the attack. Then the audience is subjected to horrible atrocities, robbed of all of their belongings, and massacred.

Paul was once a happy clown, performing at kids birthday parties as Scooter the Clown, making balloon animals, telling jokes, etc. His life was fine until he discovered his wife was cheating on him. When he confronted her, she laughed at him and asked if he really believed she could be faithful to a professional clown who made very little money.

Devastated, Paul moved out of his home and ventured out on his own. But he could not motivate himself to make others laugh when he himself was severely depressed. Soon, that sadness turned to anger at his unfaithful wife. Paul sold his soul to the demon Loki in return for a way to have revenge on his wife and her lover. He was given the power to make anyone laugh so hard it would have terrible effects on his or her body.

He confronted his wife and her other man, and before long they had literally laughed themselves to death. Autopsies would reveal massive brain hemorrhaging. Now awaiting an eternity in Hell, Paul figured he might as well enjoy the rest of his life, and he began to terrorize the world. The Ringleader, head of the Circus Macabre, discovered and eagerly recruited him. He changed his name to Hysterix and now is happily murdering circus audiences at his leisure.

Perrywhite’s true nature is almost exactly opposite of his social appearance. The Lords strive for anarchy across England, and are slowly building an army to make it happen. Perrywhite is an accomplished fencer, which he puts to good use, using his sword, hidden within his cane, to slay those who get in the Lords’ way. He also owns an umbrella capable of shooting its sharpened tip like a small piercing missile.

But she learned that the force was less dedicated than she, and she didn’t have the resources or the permission to dispense of crime the way she wanted to. So, taking her lead from the masked hero the Raven, Stephanie created a suit for herself out of Kevlar that could enable her to glide from rooftop to rooftop. Armed with this suit and a pair of 9mm Baretta pistols, Stephanie has taken to the streets to get really tough on crime.

Matias was born in Finland in the year 1918. Shortly after his birth, Matias was stolen from the hospital by morally bankrupt German scientist Ernst Wagner. In his secret underground laboratory, Dr. Wagner gave young Matias treatments meant to alter his very physical core. Before he could complete his experimental tampering, however, the lab was discovered by authorities. Matias was recovered and returned to his parents, while Dr. Wagner fled and escaped.

At first, all seemed to be a normal, happy ending to the nightmarish six months that Matias was missing. But one day, the infant suddenly became an icy shade of blue, with hard, frozen skin. It became clear that, to at least an extent, Dr. Wagner’s treatments had yielded results. Over the course of his childhood, Matias learned that he could create and manipulate ice in his vicinity and do with it what he pleased. Once he turned 18, he became the superhero Ice Prince, and became an overnight sensation. As one of Finland’s few superheroes, he was instantly an adored celebrity. And he let it go straight to his head.

Matias became vain as his fame spread, but he knew that he could achieve even higher levels of popularity if he could get out of Finland and fihgt evil on an international level. And so, when the call from America was made by Mr. Ultimate recruiting superhumans for a global team, Matias took a chance and traveled to the city of Caligo, where Mr. Ultimate called home. As Ice Prince, Matias was accepted in Hero Corps, but soon found that his diva personality did not jibe well with his teammates. Finally, he was able to learn some humility, and by the end of his first year on the team, Matias was a trusted, well-liked member of the group. He lived to the age of 98, passing away quietly in 2016.

During his tenure on Hero Corps, Matias once again encountered Dr. Ernst Wagner, who had become the Nazi super-scientist known as Doktor Tentakel. The Doktor attempted to throw Matias off with the revelation that he had caused his ice powers. But Matias was able to keep his head level, and killed Doktor Tentakel in self-defense when the scientist attacked.

In 2032, the technology-based company PresCorp discovered an amazing thing. By stimulating and manipulating the right genes, they could give a normal person amazing super powers temporarily. The effects lasted for about a week.
To collect as much on this breakthrough as they could, PresCorp created a daughter company called Venture, Inc. Venture offered the process to those who would pay for it (a hefty sum), and then kept them on a compound on an otherwise deserted island. They would create adventures in which these people could use their powers. It was exclusively for the sake of entertainment and profit, letting the rich and influential people of the country live out the fantasy of being a superhero for a short time. Lengthy background checks were performed to ensure that none of the customers would use their powers for evil, as well as a cancellor gate, which would void all powers when passed through. There was a public outcry scolding Venture for making the experience so expensive and thus only for the wealthy, but no legal action could be carried out.
But then the demons arrived.

To call them demons is actually a misnomer. They were really just beings from another dimension. They had found a way to cross to our world, and when they saw that we were physically inferior, the invasion began. It soon became clear that the world’s existing heroes were not enough. Therefore, the US military declared martial law over Venture, Inc.

The “hero surgery,” as it was known, suddenly became available to anyone for free, as long as they were willing to volunteer to help battle the armies of beasts. And thus, the Citizens’ League of Heroes was formed. Many different powers were offered, and all were given to these everyday working people. Thousands applied and most were accepted. They were each given a crash course on how to control and use their new-found powers, and then they were sent to the fray. They were divided into teams of ten, each being led by a pre-existing superhero. makeshift hospitals were set up near the battle lines so that the week long powers could be continued as long as was necessary. They fought until the menace was destroyed. Many died in the battles. The rest returned to their normal, mundane lives, but with the memory of being and doing something extraordinary.

Archie was changed by the surgery into a humanoid lizard.

Will Barton was always sick as a child. His body, for reasons unexplained, seemed super-susceptible to illnesses and diseases. Eventually he developed skin cancer, for which he was treated with chemotherapy. The radiation worked, but it was soon revealed that it had opened the door to something terrible. Not only did it cause Will to lose his hair and turn his skin a rotten, pale yellow and green, but it also caused him to involuntarily radiate sickness from his body. Now Will is seemingly insusceptible to disease, but anywhere he goes, he brings it with him, infecting anyone in the area with deadly illnesses. It was decided that the only way to save the population of Caligo and, ultimately, the nation was to put Will into maximum security behind several air locked doors. The solitude drove Will to madness, and he now sits in his room vowing escape and revenge.

His mutant power is that anytime he is dealt a blow by any object or force, his body converts the kinetic energy into what he has labeled “augmentation energy,” and he grows taller and larger, as well as proportionately stronger. Essentially, the more he is attacked and hurt, the more powerful he becomes.

Andrea knew from an early age that she was different from other people, but something told her even as a child to keep it secret. So she only ran at superhuman speed when she was all alone playing in the woods. That is, until her late twenties, when she took on the alias Impala and fought crime with her gift. What she didn’t know was that her little sister Britt had the same power, and that Britt knew Andrea’s secret. Britt finally told Andrea the truth, and threatened to tell the world the true identity of Impala if she didn’t let Britt accompany her on her patrols of the city.

Britt’s blackmail went further when she forced Andrea to give up the Impala mantle and give it to Britt. Andrea then assumed the name Gazelle and the two sisters fought crime together as a high-speed duo. Eventually Andrea’s resentment towards her little sis faded and they formed a tight bond.

But at some point both sisters knew it was time to part ways as crimefighters and go solo. Britt stayed on her own while Andrea joined the city-funded team called Division-X.

Andrea Gray lived a double life as the superheroine Impala without her family finding out – or so she thought. But one day her little sister Britt confronted her and told Andrea that she not only knew of her big sister’s power, but she had the same one.

Always the selfish sibling, Britt forced her older sister to let her fight crime alongside her, and even went so far as to make her give up the Impala name so that Brittany could wear it. She blackmailed Andrea by threatening to tell the world her secret. Reluctantly, Andrea agreed, and Britt became the second person to wear the mask of Impala. They fought crime together, Andrea changing her superhero name to Gazelle, for several years. But they eventually tired of seeing each other all the time. They agreed to split up, and Britt began a solo career as Impala.

But that same innate motivation that led Britt to blackmail her sister pushed her to seek more power and more speed, so she began to research cybernetic implants to increase her velocity. She modified her body with so much technology that she eventually changed her alias to XLR-8R. Not only did her new body run exponentially faster, but she also stole, from the superhero Friction, the design for a device that stores the static electricity formed by simply moving through the air. This gave Britt the ability to fire bolts of electricity from her hands.

At the height of this power, Britt went through yet another transformation, although this time it was unwitting. While in battle as XLR-8R, she collided headlong with Zazarel, a beast from the Hellgate dimension. This collision at such high speed, with such a massive amount of energy expended, caused the two beings to merge into one. Now Zazarel was at the wheel of an insanely fast superhuman, and it used this opportunity to cause massive amounts of destruction and chaos. This new creature called itself Speed Freak, and it even discovered that its speed allowed it to slip into a side dimension, a plane just beyond our reality. This allowed Speed Freak to essentially teleport from place to place. But it was there, in that strange world, that Speed Freak was confronted by none other than Gazelle, Brittany’s now estranged sister. Gazelle had gotten her speed power amplified by the superhero Battery. During the fight, Gazelle was able to separate Speed Freak into its original two bodies, and trap Zazarel in the pocket dimension while escaping with Britt.

Severely traumatized by the experience, Britt hung up her super suit, had her cybernetics removed, and retired from life as a superhuman. She even paid a visit to Battery and had him drain her of her speed power completely and permanently.
