    Alias: Essence
    Real Name: Amelia Burns
    Genre: Superhero
Powers/Special Skills: able to manifest her soul in various forms
    Affiliations: none
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: active
    Bio:
The soul is a complex creature. It is filled with all of the experiences, emotions, memories, and desires of its host. It is the passionate belligerence of war and the quiet quest for peace. It is forgiveness and vengeance. It is lust and purity, wrath and happiness. It is greed and selflessness, gluttony and abstinence, envy and acceptance. The soul is both good and evil.

None know this better than Amelia Burns. She is able to release her very soul, her very life force, through her skin and use it as she may. It can be a dangerous ball of vindictive flame or a calming wave of peace. It can be a weapon or a defense. There seems to be no limit to what Amelia, known in the hero world as Essence, can do with her soul. She uses it sparingly, knowing that at any moment it can get out of her grasp and function on its own, a confused power none could harness.

    Real Name: Maria Delgado
    Genre: Superhero
    Power/Special Skills: astral energy projection
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: Citizens’ Hero League
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: de-powered
    Bio:
In 2032, the technology-based company PresCorp discovered an amazing thing. By stimulating and manipulating the right genes, they could give a normal person amazing super powers temporarily. The effects lasted for about a week.
To collect as much on this breakthrough as they could, PresCorp created a daughter company called Venture, Inc. Venture offered the process to those who would pay for it (a hefty sum), and then kept them on a compound on an otherwise deserted island. They would create adventures in which these people could use their powers. It was exclusively for the sake of entertainment and profit, letting the rich and influential people of the country live out the fantasy of being a superhero for a short time. Lengthy background checks were performed to ensure that none of the customers would use their powers for evil, as well as a cancellor gate, which would void all powers when passed through. There was a public outcry scolding Venture for making the experience so expensive and thus only for the wealthy, but no legal action could be carried out.

    But then the demons arrived.

To call them demons is actually a misnomer. They were really just beings from another dimension. They had found a way to cross to our world, and when they saw that we were physically inferior, the invasion began. It soon became clear that the world’s existing heroes were not enough. Therefore, the US military declared martial law over Venture, Inc.

The “hero surgery,” as it was known, suddenly became available to anyone for free, as long as they were willing to volunteer to help battle the armies of beasts. And thus, the Citizens’ League of Heroes was formed. Many different powers were offered, and all were given to these everyday working people. Thousands applied and most were accepted. They were each given a crash course on how to control and use their newfound powers, and then they were sent to the fray. They were divided into teams of ten, each being led by a pre-existing superhero. makeshift hospitals were set up near the battle lines so that the week long powers could be continued as long as was necessary. They fought until the menace was destroyed. Many died in the battles. The rest returned to their normal, mundane lives, but with the memory of having been and done something extraordinary.

Maria’s incredible defenive energy blasts keep her from being hurt, a fear she has had since she was a little girl. Also as a child, she would look up at the stars above her and wonder what made them shine so brightly. Now she knows.

    Name: Executioner
    Genre: Supervillain
    Powers/Special Skills: super strength
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: huge axe
    Affiliations: The Negamen
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: at large
    Bio:
The soulless villain Negaman, a being composed completely of anti-matter, found a way to extract a piece of himself, thereby creating an extremely dangerous weapon. When the Negabomb went off in downtown Caligo City, it did not destroy any buildings or people. Instead, it created negative copies of all of Caligo’s many superheroes, giving rise to the largest army of evil the world had ever seen. The following is a list of the newly designed supervillains, each as powerful as their originals.

The Executioner is the negative of Defender. The Executioner has taken Defender’s court-themed heroing one step further and carries around a long axe, which he uses to decapitate “defendants,” which are actually innocent victims of his psychotic nature.

    (Interview Transcript: Exemplar)

Mayor Logan: Welcome to the try-outs for Caligo’s official city champion, Exemplar. Please, have a seat.

Exemplar: Why thank you, Mr. Mayor. And may I say you’re looking dashing today.

    ML: Oh. Well, thank you.

E: And how’s the wife? Still baking those scrumptious lemon squares, I hope?

ML: Why, yes, yes she is. And she’s doing fine, thank you for asking. Now, the board has come up with a few questions they’d like me to ask you today, if I may.

E: Fire away, sir. I would never hold back for this city’s greatest leader.

ML: Of course. First off, what is it that makes you super. In other words, what are your hyper-normal abilities?

E: Ah, an excellent question from an excellent man. I’m a telekinetic sir, I move stuff with my mind. It can be as small as an atom to as big as the Moon. You need something put somewhere other than where it is, you can call on Exemplar, master of the mental!

ML: Well, that sounds pretty impressive.

E: Oh, I couldn’t possibly accept praise like that from a legend such as yourself, Mayor Logan. I am but a smear in your magnificence.

ML: You know, brown-nosing isn’t going to get you this job.

E:…Well in that case, is this going to be much longer? Because I’ve got other interviews I’ve gotta get to today, and I still haven’t eaten lunch.

ML: No, I think that pretty much covers it.

E: Friggin’ finally. By the way, I didn’t vote for you, old man.

    Powers/Special Skills: none
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: various cybernetic enhancements
    Affiliations: Sphinx Corporation
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: at large
    Bio:
Frank Peters was a senior in college when he was abducted by the nefarious Sphinx Corporation. Frank was selected to be the involuntary test subject for the Omega Man Project. Frank’s body was pumped full of cybernetic implants, giving him superhuman speed, strength, and reflexes, and making his mind more machine than man. The implants included triple claws that could retract into the backs of his hands, a robotic tail that could deliver devastating sweeping blows, and a new set of infrared eyes that could pick up various signals and sounds and display them to Frank via a helmet monitor. But the most bizarre addition to Frank’s physiology was the placement of the Nonachip inside his newly acquired circuitry. This device could revive Frank if he died via impulse to a cybernetic second heart and a swarm of nanobots which could repair any damage taken to his body. The limited power of this chip allows Frank to resurrect himself 8 times, giving him a total of nine lives. Because of this, the Sphinx Corporation scientists in charge of the surgery also fashioned him a costume resembling a cat. Now Frank, under the codename Experiment 9, is programmed to carry out tasks for the corporation, most of which include assassination.

His parents, believing him to be Satan tempting their trust, cast Ezekiel from their home, renouncing him as their son. But his lifetime of listening to sermons and Scripture had been so ingrained in Ezekiel’s psyche that he began to believe that he was given his powers directly from God and decided to use them to do His will. But he does not only his his abilities to fight crime. He attacks any sin committed, legal or not, often against the approval of other crimefighters. Ezekiel has often been seen talking to himself, claiming that he can actually hear a voice in his head he refers to as Father.

Awesome concepts. You seem to be “blazing” through many characters lately. Great to see. These are all existing characters from the old forum, right?

Most of them are. But any new characters I’ve created since I started this thread go in as well, when I get to them.

Powers/Special Skills: physical mimicry; acquisition of memories; power mimicry

    Affiliations: Dynamos Special Operations

    Bio:
Genni’s parents were golden age actors in the movies before she and her brother Ben were born. Thanks to their pretty, famous faces, the money came pouring in. But, as is the cold hard truth with all of God’s creatures, the Carter couple began to get older, and their faces showed it. Soon fewer movie offers came, and their wild, carefree lifestyles left them suddenly wanting for money.

To boost their popularity and make their way into the spotlight once more, both Megan and Aiden Carter volunteered for an experimental plastic surgery, one that could surgically attach a second, more youthful layer of skin over their faces and give them back their glamorous good looks. The extra layer was semi-organic, and could adapt to the many facial features that humans make.

For a few years, the experiment was a success. Megan and Aiden were once again America’s sweethearts. During this time, they had two children, Genevieve and her brother Ben. But sadly, negative effects began to surface. The second layer of skin on each actor began to take over, covering their faces completely in a thick layer of flesh. It still allowed them to breathe and see, and could absorb food. Then, the skin burrowed itself deeper and entwined itself into their brains. Once there, it allowed itself to be controlled mentally by its hosts. Suddenly, both Aiden and Megan could mold their faces to look like anyone they came in contact with physically.

However, the shock didn’t end there. After a time, the skin gave each host a new power. Aiden gained the ability to also gain the memories and knowledge of the person he mimicked, and Megan was able to form her hands into any object she desired.

Their children, Genni and Ben, acquired all of these traits and appearances. Genni adopted her father’s abilities, and Ben his mother’s. When the children were teenagers, both Aiden and Megan committed suicide. They were ashamed of what they had become and what they had produced.

Ben and Genn have now grown up and were much better able to cope with their differences than their parents. Ben was eagerly recruited by the CIA as an international spy.

Genn, on the other hand, turned her powers toward superheroism in their hometown of Rockford though not nearly as large as the hulking metropolis of Ford City, Rockford has its share of shadows, and Genn, under the guise of the heroine Facade, is more than capable of keeping it to a minimum. But now Genn, at the age of 33, yearns for something more. She has heard of an expansive organization known as the Dynamos, and has decided to seek them out and hopes to become a member.
