Though he continues fighting demons on a freelance basis with the codename Crossfire, he has lost his friendly, compassionate demeanor and become an angry, jaded man. Cumulus’s real name is Derrick Abernethy, a college student at Ford University. Derrick was walking across the campus one day, unshielded from the heavy thunderstorm above. He was also surrounded by a low, eerie fog, making it almost impossible to see where he was going. He wandered around for a good fifteen minutes before he finally reached the steps of his class building. But just before he made it inside, Derrick was struck by a bolt of lightning. But instead of electrocuting him, the lightning softened the molecules of his body, and allowed some of the fog to waft inside him.
