    Genre: Superhero
    Powers/Special Skills: destructive voice
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: Citizens’ Hero League
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: de-powered
    Bio:
In 2032, the technology-based company PresCorp discovered an amazing thing. By stimulating and manipulating the right genes, they could give a normal person amazing super powers temporarily. The effects lasted for about a week.
To collect as much on this breakthrough as they could, PresCorp created a daughter company called Venture, Inc. Venture offered the process to those who would pay for it (a hefty sum), and then kept them on a compound on an otherwise deserted island. They would create adventures in which these people could use their powers. It was exclusively for the sake of entertainment and profit, letting the rich and influential people of the country live out the fantasy of being a superhero for a short time. Lengthy background checks were performed to ensure that none of the customers would use their powers for evil, as well as a cancellor gate, which would void all powers when passed through.

There was a public outcry scolding Venture for making the experience so expensive and thus only for the wealthy, but no legal action could be carried out.

    But then the demons arrived.

To call them demons is probably a misnomer. They were really just beings from another dimension. They had found a way to cross to our world, and when they saw that we were physically inferior, the invasion began. It soon became clear that the world’s existing heroes were not enough. Therefore, the US military declared martial law over Venture, Inc.

The “hero surgery,” as it was known, suddenly became available to anyone for free, as long as they were willing to volunteer to help battle the armies of beasts. And thus, the Citizens’ League of Heroes was formed. Many different powers were offered, and all were given to these everyday working people. Thousands applied and most were accepted. They were each given a crash course on how to control and use their newfound powers, and then they were sent to the fray. They were divided into teams of ten, each being led by a pre-existing superhero. makeshift hospitals were set up near the battle lines so that the week long powers could be continued as long as was necessary. They fought until the menace was destroyed. Many died in the battles. The rest returned to their normal, mundane lives, but with the memory of being and doing something extraordinary.

Michelle joined the CHL to be close to Jason Gellar, a volunteer who she secretly had a crush on. Tired of her own quiet, timid nature, she chose to be given a super-strong voice, loud enough to push cars over and shatter steel. Once she began to gain confidence with her powers, her own personal confidence strengthened, and a new romance blossomed among the ranks of the CHL. When the Interdimensional War was finally won, Michelle and Jason went back to their regular lives, now together and in love.

    Alias: Auto
    Real Name: Lee Laroquette
    Genre: Superhero
    Powers/Special Skills: master welder
Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: armor composed of automobile parts
    Affiliations: none
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: semi-active
    Bio:
Lee worked with his father at an auto salvage yard in the town of Piedmont and helped his parents take care of his autistic younger brother Seth. When ma and pa Laroquette were killed in a house fire, Lee took on the responsibility of minding Seth. His life became a living hell and his social life became non-existent, until he noticed Seth’s interest and surprising talent for stripping cars. With this bond the two brothers lived and worked together in peace and happiness until a gang moved into Piedmont and began to systematically take over through intimidation. Seth, who was a die-hard fan of comic books, tried over and over to convince Lee to do something about the menace, but Lee saw nothing he could do. But one day, tragedy struck. Seth attempted to stop a store robbery and was shot for his trouble. Now without the most important thing in his life, Lee finally felt the drive to make a difference. He constructed a suit composed of re-inforced automobile parts and became the hero Auto. Though the first few days were bumpy at best, Lee was eventually able to drive out the gang and restore peace to his town. He now dons the Auto armor rarely, when he sees a need for a hero.

    Designation: The Automatic Man
    Genre: Superhero
Powers/Special Skills: higher-than-human strength; faster-than-human speed; tough metal body
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: Phineas Wainwright
    Other Aliases: Johnny Clokwerkz
    Status: deceased
    Bio:
Phineas Wainwright was a humble inventor in the very earliest days of the now-booming city of Caligo. Wainwright lived in the mid-1800’s, and specialized in clock work and steam machines, particularly novelty toys. He had a small shop where he created and sold his tinkerings. But with the sudden population boom brought by the newly arrived locomotive line, Caligo also saw its first crime wave. Derelicts, con artists, thieves, and murderers following the progress of the rail line began to appear in droves, often stopping in Caligo to take advantage of its native citizens, who were not used to such dealings. To combat the growing criminal element in the young town, Wainwright constructed what would become his magnum opus; a life-sized steam-powered mechanical man. It was intended to simply scare away criminals, but what Wainwright quickly discovered and could never explain nor replicate was that the robot, despite his crude clockwork design, was able to think, learn, and make decisions on its own. The Automatic Man became Caligo’s most famous man overnight. He willingly and tirelessly fought off outlaws in Caligo, until the people unanimously elected him the town’s first non-human sheriff.

Anxious to keep the Automatic Man out of the public light and therefore all to themselves, the folks of Caligo kept him a secret. Phineas Wainwright taught him how to load himself with coal and keep it burning so as to stay active. Eventually, the Automatic Man’s creator died and he was left, immune to death and aging. Also, his thinking evolved and matured as the century turned, and the Automatic Man began to feel emotions. Instead of warrior, he decided to become an agent of peace. He became very interested in human rights and eventually gave himself the name Johnny Clokwerkz. He became a speaker on behalf of the unrepresented women and ethnic groups, even being granted audiences with various U.S. Presidents to discuss social change. As technology changed, Johnny allowed himself to be upgraded to run on newer and more efficient power. Once the rights of women and minorities had become equal to white men, Johnny turned his focus to religious tolerance. This was his unwitting undoing. In 2027, Johnny will be found in a charred heap of parts, a victim of an extreme Christian group dedicated to making America a Christian-only nation.

    Affiliation: Sinister Society
    Past Aliases: none
    Status: at large
    Bio:
Simon was a small-time mob thug, notorious for his massive size and strength. But he remained a mere human until he was sent to Alaska to seek out and retrieve a former mafia member who had ratted out his boss to the FBI. The rat pleaded for his life, offering Simon the chance at being superhuman with two large war hammers. When banged together, the hammers summoned a huge wave of arctic ice and snow, able to bury the user’s enemies. Simon accepted the offer and went on the run from the mob himself, committing crimes to support himself, until he was picked up by the Sinister Society. Now he is a formidable member among their ranks, though he has begun to question whether the Society’s quest for world domination is truly something he wants to be part of.

    Silver Hammer Man!

I like the crossroads part of his backstory, too. Will he reform and fight against the Society, move to escape them, or reform just long enough to stop them and go back to villainy? Only time will tell.

    Genre: Supervillain
Powers/Special Skills: able to convince anyone to give him any physical object
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
Affiliations: U.S. Government; The Seven Deadly Sins
    Other Aliases: Greed
    Status: at large
    Bio:
Jonathan Ravage is a U.S. Senator, but he didn’t achieve that position solely on political talent. In fact, most of the funds he raised for his campaigns were given to him as a direct result of his mutant power to convince anyone to give him any physical object. This power makes it easy for Jonathan to achieve great wealth, so what he craves now is power. He is also the supervillain Avarice, leader of the villainous group the Seven Deadly Sins. He represents the sin of greed and he keeps the group very well-funded as well as well-informed on any government secrets he is let in on. He has aspirations of becoming President and, perhaps one day, the leader of a global government.

    Genre: Antihero
Power(s)/Ability(s): unexplained access to an arsenal of automatic weapons, extensive training in firearms and explosives
    Affiliation: none
    Past Aliases: none
    Status: active
    Bio:
Hunter was a somewhat sadistic child with a skewed sense of justice, and when he grew up and joined the Army, he became a sadistic man with a skewed sense of justice. He showed remarkable talent in the use of weapons and was recruited into a special team of demolition experts. But his outward love of violence landed him in the civilian world, a liability the government refused to support any longer. Now, somehow still able to get his hands on a plethora of guns and explosives, Hunter roams the streets of the city of Caligo, fighting crime by extremely questionable means. He has butted heads with more than one of the city’s many heroes. He once auditioned to be the city’s champion to replace Mr. Ultimate. Below is the transcript of the interview, conducted by Caligo Mayor Ralph Logan.

Mayor Logan: Good heavens! Weren’t you asked to leave your weapons at the front of the courthouse?

Avenger Doom: Don’t nobody touch my guns.

ML: Mr. Doom, are you not aware that if you are to be this city’s protector and upholder of the law, you yourself must abide by the rules?

    AD: Nobody…

ML: All right, I think we can make an exception in this case. Mr. Doom, welcome. Is there anything you’d like to start by saying?

    AD: …

ML: Okay, then I’ll just ask you a few questions. First, where did you receive your weapons training?

    AD: Army. Special Operations.

ML: I see. And what made you decide to try out for Caligo’s new champion?

    AD: I like shooting things.

ML: Indeed. Do you have any non-lethal procedures when fighting evil?

AD: Kneecap shots, I guess. Not as fun, though.

ML: I think that will be enough. Thank you, Mr. Doom.

AD: Don’t nobody touch my guns.

Powers/Special Skills: flight; sonic blasters; ultranium shell
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: Hero Corps
    Other Aliases: Nightingale
    Status: N/A
    Bio:
When nearly all of the superhuman population of Earth was wiped out thanks to a virus synthesized and spread by the White Scare during his takeover of America, the Hero Corps were no exception. But scientists on the planet Valerin, in appreciation of Earth’s heroes for saving their world on more than one occasion, created artificial intelligence versions of each of the team’s six original members in what would be the 100th year of Hero Corps. With this added bit of force, the resistance was eventually able to topple the cruel dictatorial efforts of the White Scare and restore some sort of true order to the United States.

Avius was built to replace founding Hero Corps member Nightingale. It mimics her color scheme and her powers of flight and destructive sonic force.

Powers/Special Skills: unaided flight; super strength and durability; heat vision
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: none
    Other Aliases: Captain Crusader
    Status: active
    Bio:
Glenn got his powers back in the 1950’s when he was the victim of an experiment performed by evil scientist Dr. Dread in an attempt to manufacture a superpowered henchman. Unfortunately for the doctor, he had mixed up Glenn’s name with that of an ex-convict. Being a good man, Glenn used his unwelcome but very handy new abilities to apprehend the meddling scientist and then embarked on a decades-long crime-fighting career as Captain Crusader. For a long time, Glenn was a big deal as a superhero, but as times changed and more and more super-powered people turned up, his old-fashioned personality and look began to make him a bit unnoticed. Fearing he would be cast into obscurity, Glenn hired a publicist, he completely re-vamped his look to appear more modern and hip for the youth of today. Reluctantly, Glenn donned the suit and changed his alias to Awesome Man. Sadly, this change only brought on jeers and taunts at Glenn’s obvious drive to appear cool without actually being cool. But hey, even bad publicity is still publicity, right?

    Alias: Axis
    Real Name: Isaac Bane
    Genre: Supervillain
    Powers/Special Skills: vast gravity manipulation
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: The Sinister Society
    Other Aliases: Gyro
    Status: at large
    Bio:
Isaac’s mutant ability to manipulate nearby gravitational fields surfaced at puberty. At first, this power was far less developed than it is today. He could lower the Earth’s gravitational pull on objects to make them easier to lift, and he could make himself levitate a few feet off the ground. As he grew older, however, the more he used his power the stronger it got, much like the flexing of a muscle. He became the superhero Gyro as his power evolved to allow him to repel objects from him or pull them through the air towards him, and cause objects to float through the air, somewhat like telekinesis. He lived a happy life as a public bus driver, married his sweetheart, and started a family with her. But suddenly one day, Isaac’s entire life began to fall apart around him. First he lost his job due to the lies of a co-worker. As a result, his wife left him with their two children. As she drove away her car was side-swiped by a tractor-trailer and all three were killed. A week later, Isaac’s house caught fire and burned down. Then his brother was murdered in a convenience store robbery. And finally, Isaac was arrested in connection with the untimely death of the co-worker who had gotten him fired. Through all of these events, Isaac had lost more and more of his mind until the last, when he found himself in handcuffs and in the back of a police car, he was finally, irrevocably changed. In an instant he raised the gravity of both officers in the front seat of the car to such a high degree that they were crushed. He freed himself from the car and fled into the wilderness. Over the next few days he used hi power to construct a new home, where he began to plot his revenge on the universe itself. After months of hiding, Isaac finally emerged as Axis, with his power now at terrifyingly expansive levels. To aid him in his quest for the destruction of Earth, he began to recruit other villains, until he had under his command an intercontinental network of supercriminals which he named the Sinister Society. Axis has now become so powerful and so insanely bent on annihilation, he has officially become the U.S. government’s #1 most wanted terrorist.

    Affiliations: The Crimson Cabal
    Other Aliases: none
    Status: at large
    Bio:
Adham was just a boy when he was turned toward the path of evil. Much like the tale of Aladdin, he discovered an urn that contained a djinn, a magical spirit able to grant wishes to its various masters. This particular djinn hated men for enslaving him, and its heart had grown hard and filled with vengeance. It convinced the boy to make his first wish to become the vessel that housed the djinn, and in a flash became partly possessed by the ancient spirit. Slowly over the subsequent years, the djinn took a tighter and tighter hold over Adham’s will, corrupting him to be as evil as the djinn itself. This relationship with the spirit allows Adham to perform powerful magic spells, which he used to convince members of the Islamic faith that he was an ayatollah, or a sign of Allah through a chosen human. He achieved this high-ranking title and enjoyed the benefits for a while, but soon longed for more power. So Adham sought out and joined the Middle Eastern superhuman terrorist group known as the Crimson Cabal.

    Alias: Azalea
    Real Name: Julie Shields
    Genre: Reformed Superhero
Powers/Special Skills: pheromone detection and manipulation; poison absorption and secretion
    Special Weapons/Tools/Armor: none
    Affiliations: Hero Corps: London
    Other Aliases: Oleander
    Status: active
    Bio:
Julie was a botanist focusing on poisonous plants. Her main job was to find antidotes for various toxins and poisons used defensively by many of the plants the world over. One such plant, dubbed the Yellow Dagger, had never been seen until only a few months prior. One prick from one of its thorns would immediately send its victim into cardiac arrest.

One night, Dr. Shields was working late in her office, studying the chemical build-up of the poison of the Yellow Dagger. Recent tests had shown her that this plant was not natural, but rather had been created artificially somewhere and introduced into the environment. She was almost done for the night when she was attacked by a trio of masked assailants. One of the attackers grabbed Julie in a full nelson lock while another pierced her with a Yellow Dagger thorn. Her body began to convulse as her heart went haywire from the toxin, and she lay still. The attackers were in the process of destroying her lab notes and findings when Julie suddenly sat up with a sharp gasp. Suddenly, a strange plume of light green mist began to issue from her mouth and drifted over to the intruders. All three began to choke and writhe in pain, until they collapsed in a heap on the floor of the lab. Julie checked their pockets and found that the three worked for an organization known as the Network.

Julie hauled all three of the dead bodies to the incinerator in the basement of the laboratory. She discovered over the next few days that the poison of the Yellow Dagger plant had activated an untapped mutation in her DNA. She was suddenly able to take-in any poison, toxin, or venom, store it temporarily, and while in possession of it, secrete it in a variety of forms. Also, Julie realized that she was able to pick out the smell of pheromones, and manipulate them to her will.

At first, Julie turned to used her ability to turn to crime. She would never use lethal toxins during her exploits, but she would often make security guards extremely sick. But one on bank robbery, Julie was caught in the act by a new super team called the Hero Corps: London. They escorted her back to their headquarters, where Julie first saw the superhero Albion. It was love at first sight. Though Albion was somehow able to resist Azalea’s advances, he did convince her to reform and join the Corps. Seeing little option, Julie agreed, and has been on the team ever since. She enjoys flirting with all of her teammates, including the female ones, which can get annoying to most of them, who are often put under her spell unwillingly. Her teammate Rush has absolutely no love for Julie, who has changed her name to Oleander, and wouldn’t trust her as far as she could throw her.
