AlbannachParticipantGreetings, lads and ladies!
I’m a long-time HeroMachine user (about 6 years now), follower of the blog and lurker of the forums. I’ve entered a few contests in my time but have been pretty inactive for while now. Was never the competitive sort.
Most of the characters I’m going to post initially are from an RP series that me and a couple of friends have been doing for a number of years now (it’s called Dark Forces and it’s a superhero/fantasy/sci-fi hybrid that’s riddled with glorious plotholes and retcons). The characters’ appearances were more important than the art quality, hence why they’re in the basic stance and generally lack fancy things like Zyping (do we even still call it that?).
I’ve already uploaded DF-related pictures to my imgur and Photobucket accounts. I’ll post future creations directly to the forums, however.
First up is Abyssal, a character almost as old as my time on HeroMachine. He’s varied quite a bit, ranging from a Batman-esque vigilante (with a simple costume) to a villain/anti-hero corrupted by spirits of darkness or whatever (with not so simpler costumes). Regardless, he can summon and control a cloud of shadow that overwhelms anyone caught in it with a deep sense of claustrophobia. Plus he’s got the required black belts in ten martial arts that every superhuman should have. Teenage angst was a veritable source of creativity for me, clearly.
This was his very first look. A true avatar of all things grimdark.
http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u352/DENZIS666/hm3-beta9.jpgHis second version. Now with extra edginessâ„¢!
http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u352/DENZIS666/Abyssal-1.pngAn updated version of that, but probably more difficult to make out (that means it’s better).
http://i.imgur.com/jP7gRXl.pngThis was a version of Abyssal from a Dark Forces spin-off that had minimal fantasy elements, as shown by his utility belt.
http://i.imgur.com/Ga8FFF5.pngWith a DF sequel currently in the works, I’m brainstorming ideas for his latest costume/armour. I discounted this one pretty quickly, even though I like the cuirass.
http://i.imgur.com/tVaYxMB.pngThe helmet’s cool in this one, but the rest of the costume just lacked something for me.
http://i.imgur.com/PtjazF3.pngThis is the current look for him I’m developing. Most of it works fine for me, but I’m still struggling with the footwear.
http://i.imgur.com/BPtfVMl.pngI’ll post the rest of my characters tomorrow. Enjoy!
P.S
My Photobucket links display as images (I’m not using the tag) in my post preview, hence their spoiler tags. imgur links don’t do this, nor do they appear as images even with thetag around the URL. Anybody know what’s up with that? It’s not really an issue, but it’s a little puzzling.March 27, 2014 at 3:36 pm #39163
JR19759KeymasterCool. Welcome to the forums, good to see you’ve finally taken the plunge.

AlbannachParticipantNext character is Pan, with the ability to control plants and animals. An experiment gone wrong turned him into a goat/man hybrid, but he has a kind heart. In an RPG setting, he would work as a mix of spell-caster and healer.
His costume really hasn’t changed too drastically over the years- he’s always going to have the “primitive” look about him.

This is Crossfire. He was created by one of my friends, but I made the HM pic. If I recall correctly, he’s essentially a swarm of nanomachines that takes the form of this big mech-looking thing.

Also conceived by my friend is the Bison. I actually entered this picture into a contest on the blog ages ago. The face is a modified version of a werewolf head posted in the custom items area of this forum, but I can’t remember who made that (thanks to whoever it was!)
http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u352/DENZIS666/Albannach-TheBison.jpgA final character imagined by my friend is Leer. Big bad immortal wizard type born in Ancient Egypt. I think this was one of my first images where I used Zyping/highlights.
http://i.imgur.com/LhJzLJI.pngBack to my own characters, this is Hephaestus. He uses a suit of power armour that can shoot molten metal out of its chest.
http://i.imgur.com/gxvkPZS.pngAn earlier version of him, without highlights all over the place.
http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u352/DENZIS666/Hephaestus.pngCataphract, who fought like a medieval knight, except with a motorbike instead of a horse.
http://i.imgur.com/pFtBrua.pngThat’s all the RP characters done with for now (there are other pics, but most of them aren’t that good). Here’s a couple of other HM creations.
I think this was intended as some kind of Cyclops.
http://i.imgur.com/Ki1SZwo.pngThis was a contest entry, a Mexican equivalent of Captain America.
http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u352/DENZIS666/Albannach-Montezuma.pngFrom the King Midas contest (click on it to see the full image).
http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u352/DENZIS666/Albannach-FutilityofGreed.pngRight, that’s my imgur and Photobucket accounts scoured for images I wanted to share with you guys. I’ve got plenty of other creations cooking in the HeroMachine at the moment, which I’ll be posting soon. That means the quality (or lack thereof) will be consistent from now on. Thanks for viewing my stuff!
