I don’t believe it is actually based on a real-world script. I lived in Japan for the better part of last year and I know it’s not Japanese or Chinese (since Japanese ‘kanji’ are borrowed from Chinese ‘hanzi’). They are not kana, the syllabary of Japanese which was added to the borrowed characters. It does not look like Korean, as their writing is distinct in having lots of circular shapes and short lines.

I believe the writing is just meant to mimic the look of eastern written languages.
