The Future of The Pop Quiz

Due to the low numbers currently entering the Pop Quizzes, they will no longer be a weekly feature. Instead, the PQ will run on the first Saturday of every month for the foreseeable future. If, in time, it seems practical to increase their frequency, I will consider doing so. The next PQ will be posted on September 7th, 2013. Feel free to PM me if you have any topic suggestions or ideas. Thanks.

Pop Quiz – August 10 – The Who – Winner

This week's winner is Atomic Punk for his jalopy. Congrats AP, and thanks to all who entered.

Character Of The Week- 10th August

This week, I'm going keep it short and talk about the latest in Trekkie's robot companions series, the Robot Rabbit.

8: 10 trekkie-RobotRabbit

Now, the main point of looking at this image is that there aren't any really fancy tricks going on, no shading (which Trekkie can do very well), no background, just item placement. See how many different items you can spot. Making items fit in places they aren't made for can be hard enough sometimes, but fitting them around a companion must take a while, especially as it's so well done. It doesn't need any other decoration to look interesting (although it'd probably be spectacular shaded).

Pop Quiz – August 10, 2013 – The Who!

6187538104_4b5375db36_z

On August 10, 1968 - The Who's "Magic Bus" was released.
Your challenge this week is to create a 1960s inspired, psychedelic mode of transportation. So put on your favourite Ravi Shankar album and get groovy man. Peace.

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine forums,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, August 11th

The Big Question ♯13

Apologies to anyone who didn't know yet, but I am going to ask about what people think of the announcement of Peter Capaldi as the next Doctor. Good or bad call?

Personally I think it's a great idea. Not only is he a fantastic actor, but he's a life long fan, so we can expect great things from him. I'm glad that we have an older Doctor for this regeneration and Capaldi will be able to bring the gravitas and dominance of the situation that such a role would require. He could also play a calmer and darker Doctor, which would contrast nicely against Matt Smith's goofy, hyper-active (with the occasional darkness) portrayal.

Also I'd like to know which old Who bad guys you would like to see them bring back this series, to continue the theme from each passing series (Nestene/ Autons, Daleks, Cybermen, Macra, The Master, Sontarans, Davros, Time Lords, Silurians, The Great Intelligence, Ice Warriors). Personally I'd go Axons.

The Big Question ♯12

arkham

This week, I would like to look at the art of comics. Or to put it in a question, how much does the art affect the overall comic book experience?

Now, obviously we can't ask which is more important, art or writing, because if either was more important than the other we wouldn't have had the awful style over substance '90's. But still, some stories are so intrinsically  linked to a certain art style that it is very hard to imagine them any other way. Would Arkham Asylum or Sandman be considered as highly if they had been done in a style similar to say, The Killing Joke or maybe Dark Knight Returns, or does the quality of writing mean that the story would work no matter what the art? I'll leave that up to you to discuss.

Also, just out of interest, I'd like to know what/ who you guys like when it comes to comic book art and why.

Schedule Change

I will be travelling this weekend so the Costume Blog and Pop Quiz will not appear this weekend. They will return on August 9th and 10th respectively.

Pop Quiz – July 27 – Winner!

Still having trouble loading pix using satellite internet, but please check the original post for this week's entries and winner. All the entries were very creative but I gotta give the win to Keith Kanin's hilarious take on the throne of swords. Brilliant! Congratulations!
