Kaldath's Corner #2: Babymetal World Tour

On my first addition of Kaldath's Corner I brought to your attention the Kawii Metal Band and Dance group Babymetal. Well I am writing about them again because I just learned that they are going on a world tour! I do not know how many of you actually liked their music when I shared them with you a few weeks ago, however if I did happen to create any Babymetal fans with my last post I wanted to let you know about this. I do not see any US dates as of yet, however If Babymetal plays anywhere in the New Jersey / New York area you better believe I am buying some tickets!

Kaldath's Corner: Kawaii Metal"

Greeting everyone, I have decided to try something a little new here on the HeroMachine blog and have started what I am calling "Kaldath's Corner".  In these posts I am just going to be discussing things that I "Kaldath" like, be it music, books, movies, TV shows, what have you! The catch with this is it will not be a schedules weekly feature and instead will be posted when something catches mt attention enough that I want to talk about it. Hopefully with this loose format and posting schedule I will not get burned out on it and you the reader won't get too bored with the contest! So let's get started!

To kick off this first ever Kaldath's Corner I present to you all ............. BABYMETAL!!

A friend of mine shared this on Facebook and I thought it funny enough to share with the community here! So everyone get your nerd/geek on!!!

Character Of The Week: Candruth- Summer Flight

I know I don't do Character Of The Week as a regular blog post anymore but I thought I might as well bring it back as a one off because I feel that this picture is in need of being singled out for sheer awesomeness.

Now, Cadruth has been doing a lot of truly amazing stuff recently (if you haven't checked out the forum thread Candruth's Characters :3 you've really been missing out), but I think this one takes the biscuit, if not the entire cookie jar. And if I had to single out one reason and one reason alone (which is quite hard actually), it would be the shading.  The use of colour here to accentuate and add depth is truly superb, especially on the wings and on the neck. And whilst we're on the neck, I have to applaud Candruth's posing here. It is fairly difficult to do a raised head in Heromachine, mostly because the join between the chin and the neck is quite hard to get right, but it is pulled of brilliantly here and the use of shading just add to this. I also have to make mention of the colour usage here. We'll start of with the colour usage in the shading, because I haven't gone on about the shading enough yet, but it's nice to see shadowing without using black (especially as someone who uses that technique exclusively) it adds much more vibrancy to the picture and allows the highlighting to make the subject shine. Then we have the contrast between foreground and background. Whilst I do think there could have been more done to the background (maybe loosing the outlines around and adding some shading to the clouds, as they look quite flat currently, also maybe a few more stars would make it more visually pleasing) but the overall sunrise/ sunset (I think it's more likely meant to be sunrise going by the colours) effect is very nice and it contrasts well against the main foreground colours, the light creamy gold of the wings against the slate grey is especially effective. Overall a very impressive composition.

Creators Club Poster 2014

Ok guys, I've finished putting together this years Creators Club poster. First, I'd like to thank all the creators who entered, seeing all your work was really awesome. Sorry, a few people didn't send me the text files for their entries so they didn't end up on the poster (I struggled to fit everyone on as it is).

You might want to open it in a new tab to see it in more detail. Funny thing is, the poster was much bigger than it ended up whilst I was creating it, something must have got compressed during the export, so sorry about that.

If anyone else wants to do next years poster, I'm ok with that, but otherwise I'll try to come up with an interesting theme for this time next year.

Creators Club Final Reminder

Hi guys, your friendly neighbour-hood Creators Club reminder man here. Just to let you know that you only have one week left to submit your entries for this years Creators Club poster. Now I have had quite a few submissions already, but I still think we can do better. So keep 'em comin'.

You can find any further information here: http://www.heromachine.com/2014/01/08/creators-club-2014/

Remember, this only happens once a year, so if you want to be immortalised forever as part of the HM community for this year, make sure you enter.

JR out.

Succubus by Therianthrope

I'm sorry, I know it's Jeff's thing, doing a random character of the day, but I just came across this in the forums and it needs to be given this sort of fanfare.

You can check out the rest of Therianthrope's gallery here: http://www.heromachine.com/forum/the-heromachine-art-gallery/therianthropes-characters/

Creators Club Reminder

Hey guys, just a reminder that, if you haven't already, you can still submit entries for this years creators club poster. I've had a few entries already, but I'd still like more.

You can find the entry requirements and other info here: http://www.heromachine.com/2014/01/08/creators-club-2014/

To everyone who has submitted stuff already, thanks. However, I am still waiting for text from one person (CantDraw, I'm looking at you here), so anyone who is thinking of submitting stuff, take this as a warning, if I don't get text by the shut off date of Feb 5th, you won't be in the poster, which would be a shame.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say, so JR out.

Justice League: War

Here is a clip DC comics released on Youtube from soon to be released "Justice League: War" Animated Movie :

I most say even though it was a very short clip, I think they went with an interesting take on Wonder Woman, though I am not sure I like the costume design they went with here.

Creators Club 2014

Hey guys, JR here. I don't know if you guys remember but last year and in 2011 (don't know what happened to 2012) Hammerknight and Atomic Punk did Heromachine Creators Club posters, which you can check out here- http://www.heromachine.com/2011/06/02/2011-heromachine-creators-club-wanted-poster/ (2011) and here- http://www.heromachine.com/2013/05/02/creators-club-poster-2013/ (2013). Now, it would be nice if this became an annual thing, so I'm going to be doing it this year.

Now, the theme for this year is MiB ('Machiners in Black). Now Marx has recently provided everyone with a fine selection of suits, so there can be no excuses for sloppy dressing. Just make a self portrait (either realistic or idealised, it doesn't matter) of yourself in a black suit (sunglasses and other accessories optional) or a black dress if you're female and don't want to be wearing a suit. You don't have to do anything fancy, basic forward facing pose without any zypping will do fine, but I must insist on no backgrounds. When you are finished email your entry to me as a PNG transparent file WITH A TEXT FILE (preferably as a word document, don't paste the text into the email) so I can resize characters for consistency. Send your entries to me at jr19759@hotmail.co.uk. Please make sure you title the email something applicable like Creators Club or Machiners In Black, because if I get a (No Subject) email from an email address I don't recognise, it's going straight into my spam folder and you won't get to be on the poster.

Only one entry per person and please try to limit the number of revisions you do, because it's more than likely I'll just use the first one you send me. Please name your file as [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you e-mail it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png. He would save the Text as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.txt.

I will be accepting submissions from today through to Feb 5th and I'll reveal the final poster sometime in February. This event is open to everyone in the community, you don't have to be especially prolific or be a power user or anything, just being a part of the heromachine community is enough.

And finally, remember this is not a contest, it's just a bit of fun to showcase the community and its members, so have fun with it.
