The winning entries for all HeroMachine contests.

Friday Night Fights 3, Round 3 Results!

The bell has rung, the fight is over, and only two remain standing in our epic Team Matchups. In our first match, between MartianBlue and headlessgeneral, the winner is Martian Blue!

And in the second clash, between DiCicatriz and AMS, the winner is DiCicatriz!

Thus the Finals consist of an epic showdown between two of the titans of HeroMachinery, DiCiatriz agains Martian Blue! It's the match you all have been waiting for, a little something I call ... "The Carouse in the Brickhouse"!

Meanwhile, in our Round 3 Consolation All-In Cage Match, the last one standing was Kaldath!

Congratulations to Kaldath, headlessgeneral, AMS, Martian Blue, and DiCicatriz, who all win their choice of a custom item, an HM3 caricature of himself, or the choice of a general Sketch of the Day subject. Fellahs, holler at me when you know what you want for your prize.

I'll have the final round up in a bit, but please take a moment to thank and congratulate all of these fine creators!

Character Contest 74 Winners!

Many thanks to everyone who entered Character Contest 74 - Libra! This was the last of our Zodiac challenges, and I appreciate everyone's patience as we worked through its highs and lows.

Before getting to our Finalists this week, I wanted to be sure to highlight the great work of Mark's "Zodiac Commandoes", his -- and I quote him here -- cheap GI Joe knockoffs. I've had a lot of fun seeing each new team member every month, and it's great to see the entire squad assembled. Thanks for the good times, Mark!

I love the drill gun she's holding, that thing's awesome.

And now, our other finalists for this week! Note that as usual, you can click on most of these images to see it at the original, larger size.

Caption Contest 109 Winners!

Thanks to everyone who entered Caption Contest 109! We had some great submissions, including this selection of Finalists:

  • TopHat: You’re the one who wanted to meet in ‘Stinky’s Bar’.
  • Twiggyseed: Are you gonna join our gang of horrible neckwear or not?
  • Dan: “They should really start handing out Right Guard at these Comicons.”
  • Watson Bradshaw: Sorry, Willie Nelson scented candles seemed to be a good idea.
  • sean from edwards: Then maybe the sewage treatment plant wasn’t the best place for a wine tasting.
  • TheNate: “You can’t unring the Taco Bell.”

  • Joel: “Hey, when you called the assassin’s guild you asked or some one silent but deadly.”

Those are all a hoot, but ultimately I decided to go with three-time Caption Contest Winner, TheNate, for a clever and completely appropriate take on a classic saying:

Congratulations to TheNate and all of our Finalists!

Character Contest 73 Winners!

Many thanks to everyone who entered the difficult Character Design Contest 73: Virgo! We had some great submissions, and as usual I've picked out a few that I thought were exceptional for one reason or another to share with you. As usual, if you click on an image you can see it at the largest possible size (which in some cases is the same as what you see here, but most are bigger).

Caption Contest 107 Winner!

Wow, we had a lot of very funny entries for Caption Contest 107, thank you all for sharing your humor and wit! Here are some of the entries I thought represented the best replacement dialog for this panel:

  • ams: Objects may appear closer than they are!
  • Panner: Trapped in knife factory, send help!
  • Trekkie: Look out, there’s a knife heading towards you!
  • Gero: “What am I supposed to write here? Won’t he be dead when it hits him?”
  • McKnight57: Duck!
  • Frevoli: Iron Skull couldn’t see the point of dagger mail… then it hit him.
  • Frevoli: If undeliverable, please throw at the head of:
    Postmaster Dave
    231 CherrywoodLane
  • TopHat: Hey, could you give this knife to Daredevil for me? -Love, Bullseye
  • Sutter_Kaine: Using his uncanny reflexes, the Iron Skull manages to intercept the knife that would have otherwise missed him by several feet!
  • TheNate: EDITOR’S NOTE: Before the invention of Sticky Notes, mobsters used Stabby Notes.
  • TheNate: The mob delivers a sharply written reply.
  • the creator: ‘You have been poked’ regards, the Facebook team.
  • mashlagoo: Dear Friend, I am Prince Abdullah Saud. I have recently acquired money in the amount of $100,000,000.00 USD due to the death of my father. Because of a stipulation in his will, I need your help…
  • Bael: I was well accustomed to weapons bouncing off my head, but a note? That would have raised my eyebrows, if I had any.
  • Skybandit: “We have hostages and demand (continued on next knife)”
  • dblade: “Lucky for Iron Skull, there were a few indisputable truths in the universe: Paper covers Rock, Rock smashes Scissors, and Skull shatters Dagger.”

I thought the variety of approaches on this one was great, with some doing an "editor" style aside, others actual dialog from the character, and still others the actual text of the note. Good stuff!

I had a hard time picking a winner, so I ended up falling back on my old stand-by: Which ones made me laugh out loud the first time I read them? And the answer to that was ... Frevoli!

I counted two excellent puns and a cool new concept, "Dagger Mail". I can't wait to get my first letter. Also, ironically Frevoli's prize for his last Caption Contest win, and today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! That's gotta be some kind of karma.

Anyway, Frevoli, let me know what you'd like for your prize, congratulations to the Finalists above, and thanks to all the others who entered but who I couldn't paste in due to space constraints. That was a fun one!

Character Contest 72 WINNERS!

Greetings, HeroMachinists! Guest Judge John Hartwell here with the results for Character Contest 72 - The Power COSMIC! My thanks to Jeff for the opportunity to be a part of HeroMachine Nation in this capacity, and my thanks to everyone who took the time to submit your work for consideration. Kudos to all!

A quick housekeeping note: please know that if you A) did not name your file as directed in the contest rules, or B) did not provide a correct working link (some links downloaded a .php or .html file), then your submissions were unfortunately not reviewed (or, in some cases, seen).

Now, on to the best of show! (Edited to Add: most of these can be seen at a larger size just by clicking the image. -- Jeff)

Caption Contest 106 Winners!

I think Caption Contest 106 was the most difficult one to date, generating the fewest entries in a long, long time and presenting major challenges. Kudos therefore to the following four folks who managed to build in a funny interim thought between the two existing ones!

  • Loki: Everyone thinks I’m a dick because I’m so awesome…
  • Myro:
    1. “People need to learn to never, ever kneel before Zod.”
    2. “I told DC that rebooting again would be a bad idea.”
  • Skybandit: Teaching Luthor and Brainiac to play World of Warcraft has left me with nothing to do but reporting!
  • Mr.MikeK: Lois kicked me out when I proved her wrong again.
  • spidercow2010: I’ve been appointed SuperPope!

I liked Loki's for the irony, Myro's for the topical reference and for anything referencing "kneel before Zod", Skybandit's because I'm about to restart my WoW account here in a few days, Mr.MikeK's prescient analysis of male-female relationships, and spidercow2010's excellent referral to one of the great Super Dickery moments of all time.

But I have to choose just one as the ultimate winner, and for that I have to go with the one I thought was the cleverest leveraging of the two existing balloons, in a way that made me laugh. Namely, Loki!

Congratulations to Loki -- just let me know what you'd like for your prize either in comments or via email, Loki, and I'll get it on the list.

Thanks to everyone who entered, and next time we'll do something that's a little more universal, promise!

Character Contest 71 Winners!

Many thanks to everyone who entered Character Contest 71. I know it was a tougher theme than usual, so I appreciate your creativity very much.

Without further ado, here are the ones I thought stood out the most, your Finalists!
