Character Design Challenge #177- Public Domain Amalgams

Here's a contest theme we haven't done in a long time. So, the idea here is that you go to this page and pick two similar characters from their list of Public Domain Comic Book Characters. Then you combine them to create one character, like DC and Marvel did with their most famous heroes to create Amalgam Comics back in the 90's. The characters must have a name that is a combination of both of the characters that they are made of and you must leave links to the pages for both characters that are combined. Other than that, you have free reign, so go nuts.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Character Design Challenge #176 (National Heroes) Result

Honourable Mentions: Blunt Object- Masada (Israel) & Urban Poet- La Catrina (Mexico)

Winner: MacAdson- Le Sans Culotte (France)

Friday Night Fights: Winner

Ok, the votes are in, the poll is closed and we have a winner. I pretty sure nobody would have called the finalist we had, let alone the winner, before this contest started, but both contestants fought hard to get to the final, one being the underdog facing off against and beating some of the favourites to win, whilst the other acted as the dark horse, quietly winning through each round by fairly decent margins. However, out of the two, there can only be one winner. And that winner is Vampyrist. Congratulations Vamp, there would be a trophy or something but I kinda forgot to get it engraved, so you'll have to make do with a round of applause.

Anyway, so as to immortalise his win for posterity, here are all of Vampyrists entries for the FNF contest.

Round 1 (Modern)- James Bellamy

The List: Characters I Want To See In The DC Expanded Universe (and those I don’t)

Ok, so, a couple of weeks ago I did a list of characters from the Marvel Universe that I most wanted to see introduced on the big screen and it was requested that I do a DC version of the list. That puts me in a bit of a bind because, whilst I do own a copy of Man of Steel, I've never bothered to watch it and I still haven't watched Batman vs. Superman (so sue me) so I'm not all that up on what they've done so far with their cinematic universe. Plus, DC's apparent aversion to movie origin stories (not necessarily a bad thing) does make it a bit harder to make a list like this. But, you asked for it, so who am I to say no. Of course, I have nothing but the finest of no faith at all in Warner Bros. being able to make a good superhero movie, but you've always got to hope right?

WARNING: Opinions after the jump. You have been warned.

Character Design Challenge #176- National Heroes

Ok guys, this week I want you to create a superhero based around a nationality. You can do any nationality you want, but we are only dealing with superheroes here, so no nation based supervillains. And obviously they can't turn out to be agents of Hydra all along.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Friday Night Fights: The Final

Ok guys, it is the moment you've all been waiting for. Unless you haven't, but either way it's still happening. It is the final of this years Friday Night Fights. The semi0finals didn't disappoint, one having only 10 votes between the two entrants and the other having just 4 votes separating them. However, unfortunately we do have to say sayonara to both Vectorman316 and MLS from the competition. You guys may now post your entries if you so wish.

And with that, this is how the final lines up. Good luck to both competitors and may the best 'machiner win.

The List: Top 10 Things Warner Brothers Would Need To Do To Make “The Sandman” Into A Movie

Ok, so some of you guys might remember last year there was a lot of talk about the DC Cinematic Universe, around the time the first details of Batman vs. Superman were starting to see the light of day. The list contained all the stuff you'd expect, Justice League, Shazam (no), Wonder Woman, Flash etc. But one thing stood out like a sore thumb. The Sandman, Neil Gaiman's seminal tour through the world of the dreaming, was among those projects slated for a movie debut. Now, apart from the fact that this film had been doing the rounds for almost 15 years by that point, it seemed like such a bad idea. How could they translate what is possibly the best work in the comic book medium onto the big screen without it ending up being a hollow facsimile of the original (hi Watchmen and V for Vendetta). Well, why don't we take a look?

Character Design Challenge #175- TGT: Sci-Fantasy (Fantasci-fi?)

Ok guys, this week we're going to have a classic challenge category, a Two Great Tastes contest. However, rather than me give you one genre and then you pick another to fuse it with in your picture, I'm going to give you both genres. The two genres you must fuse in your entries this week are Sci-fi and Fantasy. Obviously, this means you can use any of the tropes commonly associated with either genre, so aliens, elves, orcs, robots, spaceships, dragons, sorcery and science are all there to make use of.
