The List: Top 10 Characters I’d Like To See In An X-Men Live Action TV Show

Ok, so following on from the news that Marvel and Fox are going to be working together on an X-Men TV show, I thought "why not do a list about it?" Originally I was going to do a list of X-Men characters I want to see in upcoming X-Men films, but that can be a list for another day.

I will not be including any characters that have already appeared in the X-Men films, so you won't see Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler (even though he would probably be perfect for a TV show), Jean Grey et al. This is because I'm going to assume they are going to focus on less well-known characters in the show.

But with that, on with the list.

Character Design Challenge #179- Inspired By Music

So, for this weeks contest we're going back to an old favourite theme of mine. This week you must create an image inspired by a piece of music. It can be any kind of image (within the standard rules obviously) but you must include a link to the song that inspired your entry (a youtube or soundcloud link please, for simplicities sake).

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

STOP PRESS: Marvel and Fox working on possible X-Men TV show?

Ok, so this might be the most interesting and exciting news since.... I don't know, a long time probably. Fox and Marvel appear to have to come to a deal that will see the two collaborate on an X-Men live action TV show.

The project is currently unnamed and probably isn't going to be what you'd first expect. The current information is that it will focus on a family who discover that their son has mutant powers and have to go on the run from a hostile government and find refuge with an underground group/ network of mutants.

There's a lot of different ways this could go, because of how loose the current plot description is. They don't mention any characters involved, so the mutant son could be any major or minor X-Men character. A hostile government suggests Sentinels, but that isn't confirmed and an underground network of mutants could be any number of groups from the X-Men franchise, be it the X-Men themselves (as a more gritty and realistic imagining) it could be one of the newer X-Factor groups or, hell, it could even mean the Morlocks. It also hasn't been stated whether or not this will tie in with the X-Men film series. If it does, then we are likely to see a focus on less well known characters that haven't featured or haven't featured heavily in the films. If it doesn't, then we could see reimagining's of everyone's favourite mutants for an episodic format.

The most exciting thing about this whole thing however is the fact that Marvel and Fox are working together on this project. Now, I can't be the only one who sees this and immediately thinks, Marvel have the MCU, Fox have X-Men and The Fantastic Four, they are collaborating on a project together involving one of those groups.... so X-Men for MCU? It is way too early to know what is going to happen here, but as with Spider-Man, if some sort of deal can be worked out both sides make ALL OF THE MONEY, and the fans literally lose all of their minds, all of them. Because who doesn't want to see the X-Men in the MCU, especially if this TV series doesn't have anything to do with the film series, because then you don't have to worry about fitting the X-Men films stupidly complicated timeline in with the MCU.

You can read the full article as published by Variety here. Thoughts down in the comments below people. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of you who are excited about this project.

And with that.

JR out.

The List: Top 10 Legacy Heroes

So, Tony Stark is to be replaced as Iron Man by Riri Williams, a 15 year old African-American student who also happens to be a girl. Apart from the obvious misnomer, this could be either a really inspired move or a cynical shock value based cash grab with allusions to appeasing people who are demanding more heroes of ethnic minorities, and lets be honest, it's probably a bit of both. This also means that within the last 6 years, Marvel have replaced all 6 of their big 6 heroes (Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Captain America, Thor and now Iron Man) with new characters. So what better time to look at some of the heroes that took up the mantel of an already established hero and actually succeeded. As a rule I am going to be excluding characters created during DC's Silver Age revival of the superhero genre (e.g. Barry Allen replacing Jay Garrick or Hal Jordan replacing Alan Scott), as, whilst these characters are probably the definitive versions of of that superhero lineage, these neither character existed in the same universe at the time and as such were not aware of the lineage they were taking on (unless you count Barry Allen reading Flash comics and thinking Jay Garrick was a fictional character).

Warning: Opinions below. You have been warned.

Character Design Challenge #178- TGT: Pirates

Ok guys, another Two Great Tastes style contest for you this week. This week, your main them is Pirates and you can mix that with any genre you like, whether it be Sci-fi, Fantasy, Superhero, Western, Martial Arts, Horror, Anime, whatever. The only extra rule is that you must include a skull and crossbones in your entry in some aspect, for obvious reasons.

The List: Things Marvel Got Wrong With The First 2 Stages Of The MCU

Ok, gonna try a different kind of list this week. Instead of doing a top 10, I'm going to go through each of Marvels Stage 1 and 2 films and find the problems. This is going to be interesting.
