A Christmas Story

I am a little later on getting the judging done on last weeks contest. I should have it posted sometime this evening. I like like to share a short Christmas story that I wrote for my wife awhile back. It is called "A Doll for Christmas."

Christmas was always a wonderful time, but this year would be a little sad for Angela.
All of her children have grown and it would be just her and her husband going to her mother's house for Christmas this year.  Seeing all the children running around and having fun saddened Angela even more.  Her husband tried the best he could to make her happy but he knew why she was sad.  She had been raising children for so many years and now there were none at home to take care of.  Some would find this to be a good thing, but Angela was a very caring woman and missed her children so.

Everyone called Angela's mom Mawme.  Mawme was ever bit as caring as her daughter
was, so Angela's husband decided to talk to her about Angela being sad.  Mawme told him to worry not, for she had the perfect present for Angela this year.  After Christmas diner was eaten, and all of the gifts exchanged, everyone began to go their way home.  Angela and her husband were the last to leave.  Mawme called Angela aside and took her off to another room.  Inside of the room was a big present in the middle of the floor.  Mawme told Angela that it was a special present.  Angela open the present up and it was a life size doll of a little girl.  Angela told her mother that it was very beautiful and thanked her with a hug and a kiss.  Mawme whispered into Angela's ear, "You will know what to do with her when the time is right.”  So off went Angela and her husband, back home to their everyday life.

Angela put the doll in her bedroom so that she could see her every morning as she
awaken from a night of sleep.  One morning she was still very sad, and her husband was off at work, so she sat down in front of the doll.  With a tear in her eye she reached out and took the doll into her arms.  Closing her eyes she made a wish, "If only you were real." she cried. "I would love you forever just as I do my own children."  She wrapped her arms around the doll and squeezed it tight, and as she did she could feel the doll squeezing her.  She open her eyes and there before her was a real life little girl. Joy filled Angela's heart once again, she took the child into her arms and held her tight.  "I will name you Samantha and you will be my daughter." she told the little girl, "And you will be my mommy." Samantha told Angela.

The days went by and love and happiness once again filling Angela's home.
Christmas at Mawme's would be happy once more.  Angela walked up to Mawme, holding
Samantha's hand, and told her mother of the wonderful gift that she had given her.  Later that day Angela was talking to Mawme, as they watched Samantha play, "Will she ever grow up." she asked, "Yes." Mawme replied.  "But how will I tell her that she once was a doll?" Angela asked Mawme.  A big smile game across Mawme's face, as she looked at Angela, "I never told you."

The End

I hope that everyone liked it. If anyone else has a short holiday story feel free to share it with us.

Character Contest #H04 “Exoskeleton”

Exoskeletons, be it in the comics or real life, are very cool. So for this week's contest suit up and do your best to design a exoskeleton. It can be for a comic character, or for real life. No, I'm not talking "Iron Man" type in a complete suit of armor. I'm talking an external skeleton type of suit. No limit this week. Have fun.

Friday Open Critique Day #H3

Here it is again Friday. Some say the best day of the week, because it is the last day of the work week. Others same it’s just another day because they work weekends. For me I say it is Friday Open Critique Day. Share with us projects you are working on and we will let you know what we think. By doing so, you agree to be open all comments. Please remember that the comments you make should be helpful, for we all have areas that we can improve on.

Color my Character Challenge #3

The Challenge is to color in the character, without changing the character other than adding color to it. You can add a background or other designs, but you can not take anything away from the Character. All you have to do is copy the text Taleen Darkhope-Dakar by Kaldath  and  import it into Hero Machine and the character is ready to color.

Challenges are just for the fun of it, no prizes are offered at this time.

Winner of Pop Quiz #3

From Herr D

Let’s start off with Keric. Good depiction. Love the facial expression. Two things dragged you below the others–A literal interpretation of a song, even one as offbeat as one of the Rocky Horror songs, is less original than the other entries. The other? Just in general, pictorial representation of music is HARD.

Next, The Atomic Punk. Well done. Let this be a lesson to all those going into the ‘escort’ business. Look at the horrific clientele that poor young thing would get saddled with! I do have a question. What was that gray oval over the hooker‘s head?

Sorry for my absence earlier. This is a duplicate of what I will post to the blog.

Keith? You had THE most original idea in the contest. You did the undersea scene very well. It broke my heart to have you tie for second. Strategy dragged you down. Too many difficult things to build in one picture. It occurs to me that the whole picture from another angle would‘ve been a lot easier — that that would’ve won. Impressive use of items–clearly the skill is there.

Scatman, you tied for second. Without even a background. Partly because it was remarkably realistic, in situation, pose, placement, and facial expression. Partly because your depiction of a muscular female is the best I’ve seen yet. In short, your technique was a crack shot.

Oh, my. Skybandit. I don’t even find flatulence funny. But good grief. NO ONE HAS EVER COVERED THIS ANGLE BEFORE? And you blanketed it. Realistic facial expressions. Fairly good blush. You even had the cape pop out. –okay, that part was funny to me too. Original, funny, and a great depiction of dramatic irony! Skybandit wins.

P.S.

Our friend djudy will be taking a break from the Pop Quizzes. I will start posting them this weekend. I am setting up a thread in the forums if you would like to make any suggestion. Or you can e-mail me at; thehammerknight@yahoo.com . My wife and I have been having fun judging the other contest and challenges. At this point I have not made any plans for the Pop Quizzes that are set in stone. I hope to have everything worked out by Saturday.

Many Thanks,

Hammerknight
