Cassie St. Claire is a mutant with the ability to become invisible and phase herself through solid objects. She is shy by nature and is still trying to develop confidence with herself and her powers, but she shows remarkable persistence. Cassie is a student at Powerhouse, a school for young superhumans. She hopes to one day be a member of its faculty and, thus, a part of the Honor Guard, a team of superheroes. Cassie’s parents have not come to visit her since dropping her off in the hands of Powerhouse’s leader, Mr. E. Though they have accepted that their daughter is a mutant, they seem to not want to be around her, thus giving Cassie intimacy issues with her classmates and teachers.
