JR19759KeymasterThe four most powerful individual spirits in all of Ancient China, the four Heavenly Beasts (also known as the four symbols) are the embodiment of the constellations, guardians of the seasons and the elements, and the creators of all other spirits, including the zodiac.
The oldest and wisest of the Beasts is Xuanwu, the Black Turtle, who has dominion over the north, winter and the element of wood.
Next comes the Azure Dragon, Qinglong, who presides over the east, spring and the element of water. Qinglong is also one of the four river dragons of China, with his home being the Yangtze River.
Zhu Que comes next, the Vermillion Bird governs the south, summer and the element of fire.
Lastly, there is Bai Hu, the White Tiger. He is the youngest and probably the most powerful of the four individually, and he controls the west, autumn and the element of metal.
Between them, the four spirits keep the balance of the spirit and human worlds. However, if they are unable to perform this vital duty, there is said to be a fifth Beast, far greater than any of them. This Beast is said to be a great Yellow or Golden Dragon, known as Huanglong, who administers the final element, the very earth its self.

JR19759KeymasterFormerly a scientist researching matter deconstruction, transportation and reconstruction at a molecular level, Louis Willows was transformed into a plasmic energy form during a teleportation experiment gone awry. With their consciousness in a continual state of flux and their very touch causing people to be horrifically burned, Louis was driven insane and now seeks a way to end their suffering, even if it means forcing someone else to do the deed for them.

JR19759KeymasterIt is a widely known fact that Matt Lannock, formerly known as Goliath Man, created the serum that gave him and his daughter Tori (aka Amazon) their powers. What isn’t as widely known, however, is that Lannock wasn’t the sole creator of the Goliath Serum. He worked in partnership with another scientist called Walt Oliver. However, they fell out over the usage of the serum. When Lannock discovered Oliver had been reaching out to some less reputable buyers, he froze his partner out. In retaliation, Oliver tried to recreate the serum and took on Goliath Man as The Dominator. However, the serum Oliver created wasn’t as refined as the one Lannock used and it eventually took a toll on his body. After Walt Oliver finally succumbed to the effects of his serum, his children; David and Elizabeth, took it upon themselves to take revenge for their father. They stole the Goliath serum from Tori Lannock (now working for A Division) and David used it to become the new Dominator. However, they weren’t done yet. Having stolen the serum, they then planned to sell the secret on the black market, allowing it to get into the hands of the people Matt Lannock had tried to keep it out of when he cast aside their father.

JR19759KeymasterWhen the secret of the Goliath Serum was stolen by the Oliver siblings, Tori Lannock was put in a very tough spot, the thing she had been relying on to be a superhero was now being used against her. Fortunately, the Oliver’s hadn’t sold off the formula, just the serum they had, so Tori and her father Matt (formerly the superhero Goliath Man) decided that the best way to deal with the situation was to destroy all the remaining serum and the formula, to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands again. With the help of her A Division team-mates, Tori managed to track down all of the people the Oliver’s had sold the serum to and recover the stolen property, before finally defeating The Domiantor and putting the Oliver siblings behind bars. Knowing that losing her access to the Goliath Serum would mean an end to her days as a superhero, Tori took the drastic step of copying how her team-mate Antaeus got his powers and drank the last remaining vial of serum. The effect was almost identical to what happened to him, her body gained almost a full foot in height and her muscularture is now constantly hyper-charged. Whereas before she could lift up to 10 times what would be normal for a woman of her size and weight, she can now lift over 100 times what should be possible. However, she is having some trouble adjusting to the changes to her body and has become quite clumsy with physical interactions with normal, everyday situations (the A Division base has seen its repair budget eaten through almost thrice as quickly as anticipated since her transformation). Also, she’s had to give up her position as a new recruit trainer, as there’s now no guarantee she isn’t going to kill someone just demostrating basic self-defence.

JR19759KeymasterArch-nemesis to the now-retired Hero known as The Watchman, Nightslaker is the yin to Watchman’s yang, being able to freely control and teleport through darkness, as his enemy does with light. Whilst the Watchman’s mystical power manifested it’s self in the form of a lantern, the Nightstalker’s power is manifested in his claw-like guantlets. He is the one responsable for the loss of Watchman’s sight, the reason he had to give up his superheroics.

JR19759KeymasterBorn with both superhuman intelligence and a crippling degenerative condition that caused him near constant pain, Morris Carson spent much of his life coming up with new solutions to alleviate his suffering. Despite his massive intellect, nothing he tried worked, so he started mechanising himself. By replacing his organic body with machinery he managed to remove the pain, however, he became addicted to the surgery, eventually becoming just a brain in a robotic body. Now impervious to pain and with strength and endurance far surpassing a normal human, he has set his sights on a new goal; to remove human weakness by converting everyone into cyborgs like himself.

JR19759KeymasterA superhuman with increadible strength and an exceptional resistance to the cold, Irving Peary was previously a climate scientist, but he now uses his powers to fight against man-made climate change and industrial ecologival damage. However, his methods (including attacking industrial instillations such as oil rigs/ pipelines and even industry leaders) have lead to him being labelled an “eco-terrorist” by some quarters and he has been forced to fight many members of the superhuman community on either side of the spectrum. He does tend to favour working with those who share his views; Inferno is a close friend, having lost family to the oil industry she shares his distain. He has also teamed up with Coldheart in the past, although this was a deception by the cryogenic super-villain in order to use Peary’s abilities to further his own ends. However, his scientific background has been useful to superheroes in the past as well. He was instrumental in defeating Sludge when the living pollutant first appeared and W.I.L.D are not above using him as a consultant whenever they have him in custody.

NighthawkParticipantPolar Bear is Great! Love the headgear for him! Great work!

JR19759KeymasterCheers Nighthawk
Anyway:
Known as the Living Pollutant, Sludge was once a nuclear plant worker called Terrell Goodwin. Goodwin was transformed into his current state when he was caught in the crossfire between law enforcement and a gang of criminals who had stolen an alien artifact in transit between W.I.L.D safehouses. When the artifact was exposed to material from within the plants main reactor it began to give off a strange energy and Goodwin, being the closest person to the artifact at the time, began to mutate and absorbed the artifact and its energies, alongside a copious amount of radioactive material. Now with his human body consumed by toxic waste, Goodwin is essentially no more. He lackas any intelligence, his primary motivation is to create more waste for him to absorb. His body is made of a number of highly toxic and corrosive materials and his touch is deadly, even being within a certain distance of him is hazardous to a person’s health.

NighthawkParticipantCan you give me any advice on making faces for my characters please JR?How do you get yours to look so good?
March 17, 2019 at 3:07 am #155070
JR19759Keymaster@Nighthawk- It’s just a case of experimenting. You can have a lot of variety using in individual face part sets. For example, eyes. There are, when you think about it, three ways to use each pair of eyes. You’ve got using both eyes together, but then you could just use the right eye and flip it so you have a pair of eyes, same goes for the left eye. It’s surprising how different a face looks with just those variations.
Also, don’t be afraid to use the full faces in the heads category as parts. A lot of my characters use individual parts from the faces and replace everything else with items from the other face categories (e.g. Amazon has the eyebrows and eyes from the last face on the heads-femalefaces page, but I replaced thenose and mouth. With Paragon, I used the wrinkled forehead and the nose from the second face in heads-maleface. And with Lili, I only used the nose from the third face on the second row of heads-femaleface).
It’s also worth thinking about positioning. Generally, the eyes should be half way down the head, with the top of the ears lining up with the eyebrows. But you can definately play around with the positioning of the mouth in relation to the nose to give more expression and you can move the etire face further up the head to give the impression of a long chin, provided you also move the hair up to compensate.
Finally, think about eyebrows. They say a lot. Where they are positioned in relation to the eyes and how much they are rotated makes the difference between a character being happy, sad or angry and it can really change how you character feels to the audience. For example, if you look at my Zodiac series, the only thing I purposefully changed on every character between their human and spirit forms was the eyebrow position, the rotated slightly and moved down, to make them look angrier and more ready for action.
But that’s just how I do it anyway. I don’t tend to shade any of my characters any more so if you’re looking for advice on how to shade faces then you’d probably want to ask AMS, djuby or headlessgeneral, they’d be much better than me at giving advice on how to do it well. TBH they would probably be better at giving advice on how to do faces well, since they all do better faces than me anyway.

JR19759KeymasterEddie Howe has been a criminal pretty much his entire life. Born into a poor family, he stole as a means to survive and often only got three good meals during his numerous stints in juvenile detention. As a teen he began getting involved in gangas and that led onto a heavy involvement in organised crime as a adult, often in a henchman type role. Originally a low ranking member of Henry Richards Card Pack gang, after Richards arrest and subsequent incarceration he found himself working for a mysterious criminal by the name of Mr. Edwards. It was during this time that the Goliath Serum became available on the black market, so of course Mr. Edwards made sure to acquire some and set to work experimenting with the serum, using Howe as his test subject. Though Mr. Edwards was not able to improve on or replicate the serum during his experiments, it would be remiss to say that his experiments were a failure. Howe gained massive strength, able to lift a truck cab with one hand, and became Mr. Edwards personal enforcer, going by the name Deadlift due to his strength and his skull bandana that he wears as a mask.
